2am closing for NI

1

What's the deal with this then? Seen loads of posts on FB about it lately. Is this going ahead?

For NI clubs/bars that should've said.

0 |

yep, as of next week.

0 |

shine in all has to close at 2am.

jesus its a joke over here.

0 |

WTF? Whats the aim of this? To push young people into crime or something?

0 |

maybe people will start arriving before 11:30pm now, that would be fantastic.

0 |

NI clubbing is finished, think I'll retire after Easter Monday

0 |

I've been a 1030 guy since I was a teenager, like to scope a place out for good places to pose

0 |

Yep. Going through.

0 |

arriving at 11:30pm even when the club closes at 3am is ridiculous as it is.
people even do it in the menagerie and they usually only stay open to about 1:30am.
h8 it m8

Get the headliners and DJs to start earlier, 8pm start would be sweet

0 |

They need to push the alcohol licence back an hour and have an hours drinking up. 2 hours in a club with no booze is wank. Not everywhere sticks to that of course.

I dunno what this 2am is supposed to solve anyway. It'll just mean more people on the streets at the same time

0 |

When is this coming in right enough?

0 |

next week

0 |

Next week.

Plan is to drop everything back to 1am again.

I'm outraged

0 |

This will def encourage more illegal nights too. They obviously don't want that but why can't they see that it'll be a consequence of it? U can't control people like this, they'll just find ways around it. Idiots

0 |

Can't seem to find a news story or ministerial statement on this, just Atwood

0 |

if I could the see the logic in this I'd maybe understand it but just seems like some stupid rule thought up for no reason what so ever.

glad I'm nearing the end of rave lifespan.

0 |

what is the point of this? i do not understand

0 |

people do the bulk of their binge drinkin at home ffs.

then its a race to get as much drink into u as possible BECAUSE THE FUCKIN BAR CLOSES SO EARLY

ridiculous

It's almost 100% due to that Spotlight show on certain venues taking the piss with closing times. PSNI came away from it looking incompetent and this is the measure they've brought in. It's not a legal requirement, it's really a voluntary programme they are running.

And by voluntary I mean, you can sign up, or we'll be all over you.

0 |

so you can still open to 3. Just don't sell drink.

0 |

so go on to 3am, if you have nazi security fucking people out for looking drunk?

0 |

Absoloute joke. I remember I used to live in hope that it would go the other way and stay open later, but they shit us not, into reverse we go.

No, it's asking for people with a 3AM entertainment license to roll it back until 2am. So you don't have to sign up, but police will be out after 2am inspecting premises. If there's anyone still with a drink at that point, you're in trouble.

For the likes of us, it's a good thing. We don't make massive use of our 3am licence unless it's a massive night, this kind of measure will level the playing field for a lot of pubs who lose punters to Thompsons/Rain/Mynt as the night goes on.

Same as Dublin then - the vintners are very friendly with those in government (to the point here where a lot of the bars are owned by TDs) and some of them use that to do something about their disdain for clubs. Someone needs to form a Clubbers political action committee and start lobbying and shaming politicians.

I think queens is the only club in Belfast with a 3am license that stops serving at 1

0 |

DRACONIANNNNNNNNNNNN!

0 |

*shakes fist*

0 |

what you mean level the playing field. you have te same power as the rest to stay open to 3am do you not?

not like they can do it and you can not do it.

0 |

Kinda sums it all up here welldonefillet.com/201...

I remember used to queue every week for the doors opening in art college and shine afraid i would miss any decent music. the warm up into the main set set up to the last tune needs to be enjoyed. People going out late is a melt as is people leaving when the bar shuts. obviously no interest in the music

I blame the Internet

That AU article is very well done indeed. I would love to see the day common sense won the day for the masses instead of a religious politician working to his/her own agenda.

0 |

come on now children, our leaders know what's best for us.

0 |

Sorry you are correct sir *falls into line and weeps*

0 |

I'm already working on an illegal rave. No football tips or trainers though

0 |

I am a supplier of top notch security... just hangin that out there.

0 |

I was interviewed for that AU article. Didn't make the cut. Did make the infographic though.

0 |

The infographic was the best part of the article.

0 |

Not much info floating about on this. Has it been debated about in Stormont or anything?

0 |

Nothing to do with politicians, it's between the PSNI and Pubs of Ulster.

0 |

and thank you HP69. Felt smug as fuck with myself for my city tower block idea.

0 |

Is that issue of AU online anywhere?
