Been out a few times with the weather being good, trying to tame my ridiculous hook in time for the season proper.

Played Malone and Ardglass recently... Malone isn't all it's cracked up to be, Ardglass is stunning in the good weather and the greens are in great nick.

Out to Shandon Park for an 8-ball in a few weeks, tempted to hit the whole thing with a five iron as it's the only club that's agreeing with me these days.

Make this the thread for any decent offers yiz spot on teh webz for cheap rounds.

Cant wait to get out myself. Loking forward to groupon popping up with some deals in the next few weeks

0 |

theres a whopper deal for the k club atm. will find it out for certain. but im 90% that its 100 yoyos for two rounds of golf(each course) nights stay and dinner.

0 |

surely theyll try to cash in on the open in june as well

0 |

just back from a bit of a nightmare round in downpatrick haha.

0 |

aye fortwilliam's season started back last weekend. first few weeks are doubles just to clear out the cobwebs. fuckin cant wait for the next 6months of pure galfin.

0 |

aye this was the first week of the season. hopefully get out tomorrow if i dont head to soundstream tonight

0 |

I'm thinking of getting myself a new set of irons this month. Mizuno MX100s seem to be very highly recommended. Anyone using them?

0 |

how much you looking to spend?

0 |

Upper limit would be 300ish, but could go higher if it were a bargain.

0 |

www.americangolf.co.uk...

That looks alright, I'm happy with my SW and my 64, wouldn't be changing those anyway.

0 |

yeh, i reckon these could be decent www.americangolf.co.uk...

have a look at 2nd hand clubs going, should be able to pick up a bargain

0 |

Anything with a cavityback will give me an improvement on my game.

www.forgedgolfirons.co... This is the only set of irons I've ever owned, my da's theory when he bought me them as a teenager was that if I learned to hit these, I could hit anything. Didn't look at them up until last year really after a long absence.

I'm getting to the point now where I can hit them, love my 4/5/7/PW/SW out of this set, but I'd like more dependability and forgiveness over the ability to control which I don't use.

0 |

ha definitely! you would have no forgiveness with those at all. I reckon if you stick to any of the big brands youll be fine. Taylor made burners are at a good price too. I got a set of taylor made r9s at a good price last year before they brought out the r11s. Would definitely recommend them. You could possibly pick up a set second hand somewhere

0 |

Aye, I've got the burner driver, still getting to grips with it. Might make a nice matching set.

0 |

I'd love to play golf. Something to take up perhaps in the next few years.

0 |

There's a spot going on a 2:36pm tee time today at Malone if you want it, Playford. I've too much work on but you're welcome to it.

0 |

Got a society in work, played ardglass at start.of.march and carnalea friday, also played here www.palmerstownhouse.c... few weeks back for 30 euro with few boys from work, i am completely shit but love trying to.play

0 |

Games like golf bring out the worst in me. Dunno why it irritates me so. it's fuckin pointless.

0 |

I have neither clubs, nor know anything about golf. I can drink and have an extensive collection of knitwear however.

0 |

Fancy a trip out to the range this week and you can blatter a bucket of balls?

0 |

Potentially, wild busy til tuesday, but after that maybe.

Where is the range?

0 |

There's loads of them about. I tend to go to Laganview out past Drumbo or to Blacks Road.

0 |

mx-100's look like a solid buy if your gettin them for a daecent price. if your roughly a mid-handicap golfer then each big company will have a set of irons for your level, they all generally have, a low handicap range, mid and high. if your lookin a more consistent strike rate then your best goin for sticks that have quite a wide sole. it helps to get the ball in the air better than say the set of those 5p piece sweet spot blades your da gave you lol. those cobra s2's are more a muscleback than cavity back, ive a set of callaway x forged which are basically the same as the cobras and altho a crackin deal for the cobras, from experience deffo wouldnt be as easy a club to hit as the mizunos. the mx-100 or burners are solid sticks, or if you could maybe get a good deal on some ping g10's now cuz ping have just brought out g20 and other new models, so you could maybe see a good deal on them soon enough. i always feel that ping clubs sit real nice and have a nice weight to them.

0 |

I like how you called them sticks

0 |

G10s are about £350... I dunno, big fat sole on them. But then again, I've been playing blades my whole life, maybe clubs are meant to look like that!

0 |

aye, if you want to get to a higher level of golf without playin everyday or hittin the range reguarly, the first place to start has to be with a easier to hit but decent set of irons. i used to have a set of titleist blades before i had the ones i have now and the margin of error is ridiculous. even if you put a good swing on it most of the time you never fully flush one properly. but if you dont wanna fork out that sorta doh for the pings i think the mizunos are perfect.

0 |

I'll take a wee nosey into Andrew Morris during the week and see what suits. That's some spot for getting clubs with the range being right next door. Very trusting fella too, sent me over with a bucket of balls and about £700 worth of drivers to test out with no security tags or anything.

0 |

I have been considering taking up teh golf for a long while now. The thing putting me off is the fact that I cannot hit a a driver/ wood straight 95% of the time. Serious, serious slice every time. It is so infuriating that it has totally spoiled the experience the last few times I have been out. I'm no superstar with the irons but I can take enjoyment from playing on Par 3 courses. Might have to look into getting a few lessons to try and sort it out. You know how much I would be looking at for one on one lessons? Can you get them at the range?

0 |

Yeah, I've got ones to take at Laganview that I got for christmas, most courses/ranges will have a pro.

0 |

have u ever played Belvoir Murray? prob my favourite course in Belfast

0 |

belvoir is a beast of a course like, the augusta of belfast. most golf club pro's do lessons, so you could easily dander in to ur nearest golf club pro shop and see if the pro does lessons. if theyre just a regular pro then itd probly be about 15quid a half hour, but if you live near say malone gc a lesson of theyre pro michael mcgee is 25 quid. had a few lessons off him in the last couple of years and he is pure class, manages to spot the tiniest wee things in ur swing and correct them. but if your only at a beginner-ish level ur best gettin one off a local pro.

0 |

I've heard good things about Colin Bell @ Laganview.

I'll be trying him out this week, will report back.

0 |

Fuck that. just upload a vid and we'll tellu where ur goin wrong

0 |

haha. Aye right.

0 |

;-)

whats ur main problem?

0 |

Peter martin at colin valley driving range is good as wel

0 |

Just had my first lesson there, lovely fella out at Laganview. Good setup too, closed off bay at the end of the range with video analysis etc.

First thing he does is change my grip. That'll take some getting used to, although he was amazed I could hit my blades as well as I could, so there.

0 |

video analysis sounds good, mmurray. how much was your lesson? need to get sorted with a few myself. did he email you a link to the videos he took or anythin like that?
gherkin, if you're slicing it most of the time, its more than likely your setup for the driver. some decent videos on youtube for tips.

0 |

It was a present, Hass, so I'm not sure. Dont think it's mad expensive.

Didnt give me any links, no, but ran through it and showed me that the posture is spot on, swing plane was a little off and the best way to fix it was to start with the grip and work up.

0 |

Belvoir is a magic course, tough test aswell from full distance.
Royal Belfast is another gem in the Belfast area. Its hard to knock
Rockmount aswell on a good day, green keepers on occasion get the
forecast wrong and the greens end up like coffee tables, but Ive usually had
a great time playing up there, its not easy either.

0 |

I had a bit of a nosey one day on youtube for a few tips but haven't really been out since to blast a few balls. It starts out relatively straight and ends up further right than it is ahead of me.

0 |

Anyone know who the pro is up at fortwilliam my sister won a couple of lessons on a raffle and give me them, wonderin if they're even gonna be worth using, last couple of sats have been outstanding for golfing, played gracehill on sat past there its a tough course

0 |

You wouldn't catch me anywhere near Gracehill. Not without a bag full or dunlop/range balls. Far too much water by the look of the pics.

0 |

*of

0 |

Its not actully too bad, first time i played it i hated it there had been a fair bit of water lyin about it to, it played alot better on saturday after the dry weather, if your not hitting the ball well id give it a miss as a good few of the holes involve carrying over water/bits of bogland

0 |

Wait'll ye see after these lessons, lad. Carryin' water hazards for fun. Fairway bunkers? Carry'em.

0 |

Lay up. I dunno if id be bothered with lessons at this stage, any bad habits ive picked up im comfortable with and can try and work around, i dont want to change things and end up totally shite like harrington

0 |

You reckon it would be worth getting fitted for clubs if i am buying a set? I'm about 6'3. Does it cost a lot and can you get the clubs with a little extra length for the same price?

0 |

I'd say you'd notice the difference if you were 6'3. You'd be bent double hitting a standard PW/SW surely?

0 |

My god given talent and adaptability must have been pulling me through. My short game wasn't bad tbh, the rage and frustration of not being able to hit a driver AT ALL was spoiling the whole experience for me but I feel a new dawn awaits when I spend a fortune on some expensive equipment, assured in the knowledge that it would undoubtably sort everything out and I'd be playing off single figures in no time.
