New intel ivy bridge i7 chipset reviewed..http://www.e...
.
But fuck me at its built in media chip....
.
"Using Cyberlink Media Espresso the new chip turned a DRM-stripped Blu-ray of Harry Potter (130 minutes of 1080p video) into an iPad friendly format in just seven minutes without taxing the CPU"

0 |

My scrapper acer takes about 3 hours ffs

0 |

think i might just spash out on the i7 when i go to build this new pc. for the sake of 70/80 quid.

0 |

i was working on a hotel/conference job that had one of them RJ

it has its own electric/mechanical hoist to get it out of its flight case and onto the stand

beast of a thing

(the tv)

Did you get to see any 4k stuff on it? There was someone from here was over at the CES show can't remmy his name wonder of he got to see any cool tech..

0 |

Sumguy it'd be worth it but you'll also have to factor in the motherboard as well

0 |

A wee video on the internet archive - www.wimp.com/interneta...

interesting look at the possible future of HUDs

0 |

just bought an i5 ivy bridge. Soon see how how they can go :/

0 |

how=hot

0 |

the i5's can be seriously O/C 4ghz+ stable

0 |

yup, the sandybridge i5's haven't really dropped in price, otherwise I would have just got a 2500k

0 |

My PC at home is running the 2500k at 4.6Ghz... that's a 1.4Ghz increase over stock. Unreal chips.

0 |

sorry, 1.3Ghz.

0 |

holy shit

0 |

what way do you overclock these days? still adjust the voltage in the bios?

0 |

Quite a few bits and pieces to adjust now Con... have a scan at this... ardforum.com/showthrea...

0 |

so many variables, do you work off a template of settings?

i remember one of the old 2.3GHz AMDs was actually a 2.6GHz one but with restrictions on it and you could use a pencil to erase the bit on the chip to release that restriction.

0 |

No, I bought it as a pre overclocked bundle so no messing about, although the first bundle I got had a chip that just didn't like being pushed to 4.6Ghz... after a fair bit of back and forth with the tech dept at overclockers.co.uk they sent me out another bundle which seems nearly 100% stable.

Aye, I think there was also an AMD chip were you could unlock cores giving a huge boost in performance.

0 |

you game on the desktop, dont you?
cant see me ever owning a desktop again tbh, though the skyrim mods look amazing

0 |

lol.. needed a PC upgrade a while back and thought I'd get enough power to be able to handle any modern game flat out as I thought I was gonna play a bit more. Have been on the computer less in the past year than in all my life. I'd def say it was a bit of a silly purchase and a waste of money... this'll prob be my last PC for a very, very long time... prob until it packs in.

Ivy Bridge run way cooler than Sandy Bridge

will this www.amazon.co.uk/Corsa...

fit this motrherboard? www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr...

cant wait any longer, going to order the parts for a build in the next couple of days. looking at that motherboard with that water cooler along with an ivy bridge i5 3570k, this case www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr...
this psu www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr...
this ssd www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr...

a basic dvd drive and this monitor www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr...
Still not 100% on a graphics card but have about 10/150 to spend on one will look into it more tonight. from my research all that stuff should fit together fine but any of you know any different? and how you think that stuff will run together.?

0 |

i don't know much about building PC but i know what a 128GB SSD is and I also know what a motherboard is and that one can handle 32GB DDR3 RAM. I know thats serious business, i'm jealous. I don't game but it would be some of the fastest web browsing/word documenting i have ever done

0 |

oh yea forgot about ram www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr...

Sensum - emotion recognition tech

so thinking about going for this along with the setup above. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr...

most of those links dont work for me? is a 550w power supply enough to run a proper system? from what i read its 750 minimum? i could be wrong tho. how much does all that come to? im getting killed by the shit euro to pound exchange rate at the moment so its pushing me up to around 1300 euros. Lucky amazon are posting nearly all the parts free delivery or i would be fucked.

0 |

failblog.files.wordpre...

0 |

oops sorry, I think dabs.ie just changed there site a bit, so probably messed up there links.
think it came to something like 930euro

I think 750 is huge, I'm not sure what you would need it for.
tonnes of builds here at different price ranges. Not seen any with that much power though - www.boards.ie/vbulleti...

0 |

similar case to yours only much cheaper and has usb3. If you'll buy used stock - www.dabs.com/products/...

I bought one that said it had a scratch, took me ages to even find the mark, saved 20quid.

on videos on building a pc on youtube the new egg videos always say make sure you use copper/bronze screws to place the motherboard do they come with the case/motherboard etc or do i need to order them seperate? also did you come into any problems that you didnt think you would?

0 |

All the screws will come with the case. You might need an extra SATA cable for your DVDRW.
Everything was grand. I'm still waiting for a card reader and fans, so might re-do some of the cabling at that point.
I'd be surprised that your corsair cooler doesn't come with thermal paste, hardly matters though considering the price overall.

booting from an SSD is real nice. Window's is up in under 7seconds.

0 |

matthewS get better RAM than that.

550W PSU should be fine for that setup - you can use these calculators to help - extreme.outervision.co...

0 |

"use copper/bronze screws" - does it say why to use them?

The cooler should come with paste.

0 |

the paste is readily available and quite cheap. Sorry this is all i've got.......

0 |

Reckon it will make much difference? Was running quickly out of money by the time i bought it.

0 |

something to do with earthing it.

0 |

i love my ssd. put one in my 6 yr old macbook and it flies along nicely

0 |

oh no wait, i have one more thing. Earth yourself before playing around with the PCB components. Just touch the metal bit at the radiator where you screw it off or on or touch the screws on a plug socket in the wall. If i'm doin a playstation or iphone or upgrading a PC I would touch these points several times.
I have never heard of any component failing because I haven't earthed myself but defo would not take the risk

0 |

If you've got it and all, don't worry about it. It's just you have a very fast machine with pretty much bog standard RAM in it.

0 |

Yeah, it's already bought. I'll probably upgrade it a bit whenever I get some cash. cheers

0 |

don't think I've ever earthed myself

loving my SSD as well, although it makes everyone elses machine I touch feel painfully slow

0 |

i didn't realise how much it would speed everything up, even the internet zips along and all with zero noise

0 |

Bar teh boot up times, the biggest difference I noticed was BF3 map loading times, 60 seconds down to 10 seconds...we live in the future yo
