Don't like how common it's all becoming.

See there are wee fan girls running about now calling themselves 'Holmies' after your guy James Holmes done all that shooting in Denver the other week.

Consequences of weak/open gun laws and right wing/republican politicians supporting no changes to those laws. Sad that this is becoming a regular occurence.

0 |

Is it really the gun laws that's to blame? I mean, I totally agree that people shouldn't necessarily have such easy access to arms, but these people are just snapping and going on killing sprees. Surely we need to understand why they're snapping in the first place rather than focussing on what weapon they're using.
I mean if there weren't guns availabe, who's to say these sick people wouldn't have went on a rampage with a machete?

I'm sure people snap like that across the world probably some in the uk as well but do far less damage because they don't have easy access to weapons that can kill people in high numbers. Add in the access to guns and you end up with what you're seeing in american on a regular basis.

When shit like this happens, it always remind me of that Marilyn Manson interview:

Michael Moore: If you were to talk directly to the kids at Columbine or the people in that community, what would you say to them if they were here right now?
Marilyn Manson: I wouldn't say a single word to them I would listen to what they have to say, and that's what no one did.

0 |

i cant see how having access to automatic assault rifles and such weapons can be justified. I can see how they defend their right to own a gun but that's different than stock piling enough guns and ammo to man a small army, that goes beyond defending your property to being able to slaughter a community

300mil+ population plus easy access to weapons & ammo... really an this sorta shit is still shocking??

0 |

the right to bear arms was introduced in 1789 in the states in the bill of rights. They didn't have automatic assault rifles, uzis and such weapons back then. i'd like to think arguing to keep your shotgun to defend your land is far removed from an 18 yr old living in the suburbs owning an assault rifle that can shoot 80 rounds per minute

0 |

can't you people see its not the guns fault. A fella I know DIDN'T see another guy get his head near taken off with a machete in belfast recently. ban knifes??
What about cars? golf clubs? cricket bats? blunt objects in general? Any thing that travels over 40Mph?

I could kill you with the penalli pen set but they aren't gonna ban it if I do

0 |

After the port arthur massacre here in Oz all automatic weapons were banned- people can still have shot guns etc that's all they need tbf

0 |

because guns are created to kill, golf clubs are made for playing golf

0 |

Trying to make out a gun is just as dangerous a pen?

There is a reason they take guns and not pens to war. They are designed for the sole purpose of killing.

True, a pen could be directed at the neck and used to kill, Joe Pesci proved this.

But - I doubt this guy would have got very far in this temple wielding a blue bic.

0 |

There are similar arguments put out to defend huge armies, as a deterrent to others.

To some extent that is true, but wouldn't it also be likely that when you train and equip an army then they will want to put their skills into action.

There comes a point where the deterrent starts to make the action more likely in my opinion.

These kids use guns as they are designed to kill from a distance, I reckon they wouldn;t have the balls to go on a rampage with a knife, baseball bat etc as you need to get proper close to people with those items. Even if they were crazy enough, they'd maybe get one maybe two people before getting painfully battered to death themselves.

because guns are created to kill, golf clubs are made for playing golf

Guns were invented to kill, used for sport now mostly, were prob also invented for catching dinner. I watched shooting the other day on the BBC, not a person was killed. Competitors had 100 shots each. Its clearly not the fault of the gun but the dick using it.

0 |

guns are not made mostly for sport. are you telling me the thousands of armed armies, gangs, militias etc all round the world are outnumbered by the amount of people shooting paper targets

dead on

I agree with RJ. I actually think America isn't that bad considering. I mean, imagine there was the same percentage of firearms knocking about here.

0 |

Similar population to canade where a lot less crazy shit like this happens.

You can't just say "There's loads of people there, so it's bound to happen from time to time". That's a lazy and ignorant approach to statistics.

0 |

I'm really fucking wrong.
Canada is about 10 times smaller in population.

0 |

Most sparsely populated country in teh world innit

No i am not telling you that, nor did I ever imply it. Now days, new guns created are for sport more, by sport I mean clay pigeon, hunting, targets. Its like you have the view of an Inspector Gadget type bad guy sitting in a seedy dungeon designing a gun for killing people, when in actual fact its expert engineers working out how many times the drill bit should rotate when machining out the barrel to give the shooter maximum velocity.

Look i am not saying that guns aren't dangerous killing machines but there are hundreds of thousands of guns out there that have never been fired at a person. As well as huge numbers of people who own guns and are very responsible. Its clearly not the fault of the gun but the dick using it.

0 |

I might have made that up actually on checking it

0 |

How's it ignorant Wayne? with a population the size of the USA and the vast disparity between the haves and have nots your bound to get a few looneybins and with a gun problem that's pretty much unsolvable this sorta shit is just an unfortunate side effect of the above and there's not one single thing can be done about it

0 |

And lol thinking Canada and the States are similar population wise

It isn't some Inspector Gadget type bad guy sitting in a seedy dungeon designing a gun for killing people... Its a business man trying to get the competitive edge over his competitors by designing a more efficient killing machine.

0 |

total population is irrelevant anyway as statistical comparisons will be based on shootings per head of population not total shootings in US v total shootings in Canada. I'd say canada is still much lower

0 |

Surely the business of arms dealing and governments weapon factories are bigger than guys making rifles for clay pigeon shooting

And im not saying banning them would stop murders and i understand it's the person using them but i cant see how making them legal and allow people to buy high calibre fire arms is a good thing. Just my opinion and i do get what you're saying

0 |

New guns are created mainly for sport? Are you havin a larf? The multi billion pound arms industry would like a word... www.fas.org/asmp/fast_...

0 |

I would also say most Americans who own guns legally own them out of fear or as a symbol of empowerment rather than as a gallant sports item

0 |

What kind of sport requires automatic weapons that fire hundreds of rounds per minute, or is that coming up this week in the Olympics?

0 |

I would guess supplying army would be the biggest market as they buy such quantities but there is a huge market in sport shooting. Its massive

0 |

I'm sure recreational gun sports is fairly big but it's insignificant in comparison to supplying some dictators militia with enough firepower to wreak havoc on his countrymen

0 |

Muzka id say most Americas own guns cause a: it's their right too and probably engrained into they're very psyche and b: for self defense

0 |

The us spent 711 billion on their military last year of which a large percentage was on arming them. How much was spent on sports rifles and guns ?

0 |

One the main reasons the right to bear arms was instituted in the US was because of the distrust of centralised force and allow the general population to act against it if needed.

A valid reason if any, especially given the creeping destruction of democracy in that country that is happening today.

^^^ scary scenario.

@MuhCrea I could kill you with the penalli pen set but they aren't gonna ban it if I do

If they break in your pocket I wouldnt hold out much hope of you killing someone with it

I do not know. I would also guess that 711 billion would be planes, choppers, boats (& ho's), missiles ect. very little on guns. GUESS
