Stupid article from the guardian this guy obviously knows very little about electronic music:

Reynolds wrote the book on over-egging the rave pudding.

Not enough gurning.

0 |

looking at the size of his arms, he might take a few spides out on the way down!

fair fucks to them, they look like they are having fun, the way it should be.

chairs at a rave?

0 |

i really wish journalists would stop linking techno and the "rave" from the 90's to whats happening now. there is no link between the 2, apart from maybe drugs

0 |

They all sure as shit look like there having the time of it no matter what the fuck they're wearing and fair fucks to them, i meant i could see the ben sherman brigade taking a wee dislike to mr poindexter givin it large at shine

0 |

It's just lazy and illinformed

Simon Reynolds always did this, his book Energy Flash about the early years of rave culture being the prime example. Expect a whole new volume on EDM within the year.

0 |

That said, the tracklistings at the back of Energy Flash are absolutely brilliant, release dates, labels, the whole heap - can't fault him there.

0 |

Not for me. The music loses itself in all those pyrotechnics.

Still impressive, but its not why I got into this kind of music.

Calvin Harris' T in the Park show looked unreal for its added extras.

0 |

some shite being talked here
how can you not link it ? it's evolution, just because you don't like doesn't mean you can deny it
do you remember the 90's, do you remember the big massive fuckoff trance stadiums gigs ? can you tell me what the difference is ?
so the yanks are years behind in dance music and managed to rehash/repackage and sanitise it for a new generation, so they could make money.

0 |

Energy Flash was a great read imo.. that article is not

0 |

bunch o rave snobs in here tbf, drugs & plink plonk music is the same shit no matter what decade it is

0 |

but giving em kickings is not?

0 |

it has nothing to do with my own personal preference

these gigs have far more in common with rock gigs than the techno scene in the 90's or whatever

0 |

its not a decent night without either receiving or dishing out a good kicking tbf

0 |

^anticraic

It only really has the fact they both play dance music in common. The culture and ethos is completely different.

Just as the rock n roll of the 60s is completely different than modern pop rock and the hip hop culture of the late 80s which was a combination of djs, mcs, graffiti and breakdancing is far removed from modern pop rap and it's culture

They are linked musically but beyond that they are completely different cultures

Culchuuuuuuuuuure

0 |

really? looks to me like young people dressed in whatever day glow shit they can lay there hands on, getting a load of drugs, heading off with there mates to a big dance music event with concert like setup and having the time of it... so how exactly is that different other than scale to me and my mates heading out to vengence\homelands\creamfields etc bar the fact that we didnt do the doe jackets glowsticks?

0 |

And these usa gigs have made every dj in the world think they are worth 10 grand a gig :( Crazy the amount of $$$$ even average names are getting in the usa

0 |

So who's been to these events in america and can give a fair compare and contrast to the early...

You know, can't even be arsed.

0 |

as long as theyre all getting wapped and having the craic who cares?

as long as theyre all getting wapped and having the craic who cares?

isnt that whats it always been about? dont know about this culture nonsense ballicks

0 |

wayne thats exactly what i thought as i was about to pipe up for a second time, look, fuck skrillex and deadmau5 and these american dickheads and their reappropriated horeshit dance culture and their decent high strength mdma powder.
give me levon vincent in dark sweaty room full of goofed out belfastians any day of the week

0 |

Yeah RJ they arent effecting the clubs I go to or the music I listen to so let them do what they want. They could be listening to worse music tbh

0 |

didnt read the article, but i say fair fucks to them. They always seem to be having a fucking great time, and the talent on display is immense compared to the sausage fest club nites here seem to bring. id say the craic would def be good at that type of thing in america, despite the majority of people in attendance knowing nothing about the music, but who cares? not everybody who goes to watch football could name the entire squad.

Rusko is making a killing in the states, silly money to be made out there, and i wouldnt disrespect anyone who trys to!

0 |

what age is too old to 'rave'? i'm over there quite a bit next year...
