Moved into this new gaff, getting everytng packed away and the realisation that there is actually fuck all plug sockets about the place. None in the hall, massive living room with a single socket on the side the TVs and consoles would naturally go.

Since when it comes to manly activities I am clearly lacking in testicles, how involved would it be for a spark to add more sockets? I'm assuming is would be quite a job? Grimness.

to add additional sockets neatly, yes it'll be a grim job as the walls will need tracked making a right mess and it'll cost ye

0 |

Not that difficult at all.

0 |

Depending on the cabling available in the house, it could be a fairly simple job, however, he or she may have to put drill new tracks in the walls to run new cables through for sockets in certain places. If this is the case it will involve, drilling tracks, plastering, painting etc.

Rented or bought this new gaff?

Any sockets in the bedroom?

0 |

might be cheaper to buy a few extension plugs and clip the leads to the skirting round the living room

0 |

You want this: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/81...

0 |

Aye it's a rented gaff. There are 6 in the bedroom which is half the size of the living room ffs, which has a double one side and a single the complete opposite side of the room. I know it wouldn't be too much effort to turn a single socket into a double but we would really need more sockets in places where they aren't.

Looks like I'll have to be doing this shit kentsecurityandelectri...

A proper job would need to be wired back to the consumer box, probably under the stairs.

Ridiculous that your living room only has one socket.

0 |

the whole place will need rewired i reckon.

0 |

What are the chances I could get the landlord to pay for it? I'll have to get some brasso for my neck naturally.

0 |

Why would you need some brasso? He's obliged I'm sure to make sure the house is fit for purpose. I'm sure one socket in the living room is a bit of a joke.

0 |

tell your landlord that the current sockets dont meet BS7671 and that in order to comply he needs to install 2 more, 1 in the hall and a medium sized indoor sex swing pronto

0 |

but unfortunately there is no law governing it, only guidence so he'll probably tell you to stick your sockets but may install a sex swing

0 |

thought this was about the band :(

0 |

What RJ said.

0 |

Fingers crossed (and lubed) in preparation for the sex swing

0 |

Hold on, Bedroom has two plugs on one side, and one on the other? How's that not enough for a bedroom? Ever heard of a 4-gang?

0 |

There are actually 3 double sockets in the bedroom. There is one double on one side of the living room, and a single on the opposite side of the room, where the fireplace is and where you would have the tv, TiVo, Xbox and ps3.

0 |

There's only 6 sockets in my room so I have 3 four way plugs. No issues for all the equipment.

0 |

Which would be sweet if I was sticking all my electronics in the bedroom and not the living room

0 |

jesus man just buy an 8way extension plug from amazon for aboot £10

Yip. Eight way then if you're stuck fire another few four ways in sure.

0 |

which reminds me, i need to purchase some kit to tidy up the back of my telly as its serious fucking mess and no doubt a fire hazard with:
Telly
Tivo
Superhub
HTPC
AMP
XBOX
10+ External Hardrrives

0 |

No sweat lads cheers

0 |

thats:
16x Power plugs
10xUSB leads
1xComponent cable
2x HDMi
2x Optical cables
5 sets of speaker cables
all stuffed in behind my tv unit, it really does look fucking grim

0 |

I have a similar issue.

0 |

RJ,

I implore you, check your smoke alarms regularly.

0 |

Choc, i do mate and i do intend to rectify the situation but i have it somewhat under control with the plugs seperated into Always on & Off, i.e. Router & Tvio are left on and the rest of the extensions i switch off at night

0 |

WTF @ 16 plugs?

I recently redone all my cabling and stuck my 6 way adapter onto the back of my tv stand so I only have 1 cable touching the floor. All nice and tidy. Only 4 plugs used it total.

SIXTEEN??!?!

0 |

yeah i know its hilariously bad, i've 10 external hardrives connected to a USB hub then into my HTPC unfortunately i've no way around this little bit, it wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt for all those drives ffs

0 |

LOL @ 10 external Hard drives

0 |

Why not buy less bigger capacity HDDs.

0 |

I'm waiting on technology finally giving us mass storage in a single unit, i have a mixture of 1 & 2tb drives, once i fill em, i buy a new one and on it goes ffs, starting to get out of hand tbh

0 |

That is mad. I have a 2TB, tend to delete things after a while. Anything I really, really like I buy on bluray out of guilt.

0 |

How much porn does one man need?

0 |

wtf @ 10 external hard drives? and they're all always on??

0 |

what the fuck do you keep on them?

0 |

no they arent always on, i switch em on when i goto watch a movie so that i have instant access to over 800 1080p movies at the touch of a button

0 |

never takes long to download something, whatever it is you want to watch can be downloaded in what, an hour or less? then delete it.

not instant. but less hassle than instant is worth.

0 |

this is just one mans opinion.

0 |

id like to see you download an 8gb+ file in a hour at peak time without a 100mb connection and unlimited downloads, besides i like having the choice of so many films to browse through and with the way i have mine set up using XBMC, i can bring up one flick, watch a trailer.. goto director and it'll bring up all the other movies in my collection that he directed and so on or just browse by genre, year etc... i.e. action movies from the 80's is always a good shout

0 |

RJ is like crazy cat lady... 'crept with HDDs.

Seriously mate, need to rethink your media solution.

0 |

a central server is the only solution but i have neither the time nor cashola at the mo to build and install one
