Anyone been caught without it? I got spotted by car tax camera :-( Potential hefty fine.

Thing is, I got my car tax sorted prior to being informed, and I back paid it including arrears to cover the period I was caught. I'm hoping that they don't actually go ahead and send out the fine, or I can appeal it.

Potentially £1,000 pissed up the wall though! That'll learn me!

When did it expire?

0 |

There was no car tax on it when I bought the car, 22nd June.
However, I put the deposit down mid May and the DVA seem to think I've had the car since then.

Lads the tax vans are out and about today. One at sydenham now and where ever Wayne has just been. Must be cus loads of cars run out of tax in August. I just went and taxed mine there nosyw

0 |

It was 11th July I was spotted. I think it was cameras out near Holywood.

0 |

That's a long oul time to be un-taxed, not much you can do other than hope paying it after the fact will help.

Surely they'd be trying to catch June expired cars at this time, does the 14 day grace period not still exist?

0 |

Paid mine last week was out of date yesterday

excellent tax paying markc
wayne, not so good

I wish the fuck they'd get an online system. I'd have had it sorted out straight awat then.

0 |

Straight awat, chep cider, 5 star, wee giant anns, etc...

0 |

Nice one, they put cameras out on the 1st day off the month.

I've been trying to phone to pay my car tax and the line has been engaged constantly for 3 days now.

0 |

is it not just backdated?

0 |

Say what? You mean they just force you to pay up for the period you got caught rather than the £1,000 fine?

0 |

company car ftw

Some cunts attempted stealing my car last night and then when they couldn't get it started the bastards burnt it out. Phoned up about tax refund I was told I'll be losing money for all of this month as they only calculate refund from date of receiving appropriate forms. Fucking bureaucratic tramps

0 |

you're not allowed on the road in an untaxed car. you've been fined for that so can't imagine there's a way round it.

0 |

thats fucking hectic, did they take it from the house?

0 |

Nah, made a bonfire of it right in the middle of the street

0 |

tbh, sometimes its better when they burn it out. I had some tramps try to steal my car and they just caused loads of damage. I had fire&theft insurance and got nothing but a large bill.
However, I must agree with the DVLNI being spunk buckets.....

i had my fiat stilo beaten on every panel. made it worthless to sell and couldnt be bothered. drove it til it broke down on the dual carriageway out of ards and sold it for £250 to a scrap merchant

0 |

oh crap cheers for the reminder. I'm a little late with mine atm :/

Where was this shat?

0 |

WayneFuckinDtoday @ 3 p.m. I wish the fuck they'd get an online system. I'd have had it sorted out straight awat then.

Pay in the arse having to dig out MOT, Insurance Cert then heading to the post office to get it done, when you could just do it online in a few mins have the disc sent out to you in the post.

But you shoulda done a Del boy and put Tax in post in the window

0 |

MarkC, the cameras just read your licence plate and then check a computer to see if you're taxed or not. You could have a teddy bear in the window for all they care.

Post Office gave me the run around. Was there three times before they finally told me I had to go to the DVA office (open 9:15am - 4:00pm, brilliant) as it was my first time taxing a car.

Their system leaves a lot to be desired. Don't think that's gonna fly though when they send me the fine for £5,000

0 |

you can do it by phone these days though, non?

0 |

0 |

Not first time Ferg. You can renew by phone.

0 |

02870 341514 to tax your motor... if they fucking answer

0 |

they did

Car tax renewed

0 |

post office were full of shit wayne. my first time taxing a car last week. brought MOT and insurance certificates into post office, walked out 2 minutes later with new tax disc.

Melty late night car tax/insurance question, sympathy replies welcome

Bought a car, it needs taxed and insured. Ive got an insurance quote which i am about take online, thing is since ive only bought car i havent sent logbook away yet and therefore would take a few weeks for it to come back to me as new registered keeper, which would delay me being able to tax car

Is it ok for me to tax the car now online.. the disc will get sent out to previous owner who will then contact me and away we go.

Or is that a bad idea? All i wanna do is get this thing on the road asap and all above board

0 |

Your name doesn't have to be on the logbook to tax a car. There's a little slip on the log book especially for taxing a newly bought vehicle (it's the bit you send off to the DVLA to get the logbook in your name) . The previous owner should have torn it out and given it to you before they sent the rest of it away to unassociate the vehicle with themselves.

Only the name on the insurance certificate/cover note must match the name on the tax application form.

0 |

And you can tax it at the Post Office with that little slip.

0 |

Cheers Cob, so if i take the logbook to Post Office with some evidence of my insurance, they will tax it for me? even though I'm not yet registered keeper with dvla?

0 |

Yes...but not all post offices, only certain ones will do it without a reminder letter - the link below will tell you which POs do the service with the form you need (v10) www.nidirect.gov.uk/sm...

0 |

So...you cant go to a po That only takes v11s

And you dont need 'some proof' of your insurance you need the insurance certificate. ..the cover note wont be accepted

0 |

Nor a digital copy, has to be printed out

0 |

So did Wayne get fined or waaa?

0 |

Getting there now, have to collect cover note from Insurance company at lunchtime and we're good to go

0 |

oops think my tax and insurance is up around now. Only did 2500 miles!

0 |

Muzak...the post office Don't accept Cover notes...you need the actual insurancer certificate.

0 |

FFS you sure?
Says this on v10 form though..

'Current Insurance Certificate or VALID Cover Note ONLY
(Renewal invitations, policies, receipts, schedules, photocopies & faxes
are not acceptable). The Insurance Certificate or Cover Note must be
valid on the day the tax disc is issued or in the case of an advanced
application on the day the tax disc comes into force. The insurance
certificate/cover note must be in accordance with UK Legislation and
relevant to the vehicle specified overleaf.'

0 |

Ahhh ok...feckin post office turned me away before for only having the cover note. ..you should be alright if it says it on yhe form
