earliest memory

1

the day we moved into our new house, i was on my dads shoulders walking up the main road, we could see the back of our new house across the fence, my oldest brother was already inside, upstairs, waving to us from what was to be his bedroom. i was 2 years and 10 months old. january 31st 1985

i have very vague fleeting visions of our home before that, but they could be based on photographs and definitely nothing concrete like that moving day moment.

2 years and 10 months.

i didn't speak till i was about that age... my parents thought i wasn't gonna speak at all. i also didn't speak baby talk... apparently my first words were a sentence asking for dinner. freak!

i don't remember it - my first memory was driving about in a wee yellow noddy car when we were moving into our house in Castlederg. in fact, that's about the only thing i can remember about that house. we only lived in that town for 9 months but i remember it clear as day.

I have the worst short term memory ever. But i my earliest memory is being in the pram, and my mum and her mate pushing me down the road into our village. I remember one of them was wearing a pokadot dress.

euro 88 and big ruuds dreads

i remember sitting on my grannies couch with a drum and a wooden spoon, i would have to have been around 1 year old because they moved out of that house around that time, and the wooden spoon andn drum were massive to me.
also remeber getting my hair curled for my uncles wedding, and from pics i can see that was around 1 or 1 and a half yrs old

Must of been about 2. was left to my own devices by my da in our first house. He was in bed, I found an entire packet of jelly beans and took them to the bunk beds to eat every last one.

Then I barfed all over the bedroom, stairs and landing. good times.

earliest memory for me is when i was being pushed in a pram up a mountain/cliff area in Jersey, think it may have been devils cove ( ) and went into a pottery place, wouldve defo been under two

weirdly had nightmares of being pushed up this same memory by someone unknown. Would have the same nightmare every year or so

Was a weird holiday, older bro says the person we were holidaying withs child around 8 at the time was full on freaked out the whole holiday, screaming and acting strange. Me and bro both disliked using the bowls we purchased from here from years and then realised it was due to the bad memories of the place

can remember loads from 4 on wards

Have recurring memory of floating in warm water really lovely feeling then someone holding my upper lip so so tightly right in the middle just below my nose. i asked them why they had to do this .....except I couldn't have as I don't think I could speak! They said I needed the little kink in my lips just below the nose to make me look right.....wtf!

I have a few -

being in a walker in my old living-room at home, we had just moved into the house - there was no carpet but i was flying around - i must have been about 2

being with my older brother as he threw a tin of something into the fire, which exploded over us, i had cuts all over my arms and legs as did he, hospital timez - I was about 4

I dunno how we weren't taken by social services tbh, wee brother was in hospital with a broken leg when he was about 2 cos another brothers jumped on him, another brother (who was 5 at the time) let the handbrake off the car into a pillar at the end of the hill (baby sister was in baby seat) youngest brother went flying down a dirt path on a bike using his feet for brakes (with no shoes on), I trapped my finger in a door and half my finger was hanging off......I dunno how we all made it tbh

my earliest memories are from around age 4.
Being on holiday in Port Noo and breaking my dad's polystyrene body board trying to make a bridge between 2 beds in the chalet.
Also running into the amusement arcade and switching the pinball machine off at the wall while some boys were playing.
pretty mawd.

Either getting a dart in my eye or one day it was so windy i was blew off my feet holding my mums hand and she was holding onto a fence

Playing hide and seek with my Da is Musgrave when I had a broken leg and was in a wheelchair. He would just put me behind a bush and pretend not to know where I was. Loads of my early memories are hospital related.

0 |

yeah, i grew out of it at about 5 & 1/4. It was just something I had to get out of my system, then settle down.

0 |

Lying on my belly on a blanket in the middle.of the living room floor. The carpet was brown so it had to be before we moved in 1984, so I was less than one.

Really vivid memories of Christmas 84, all the bright colours.

Holy shit that is the most adorable thing I've ever heard! :D
Mine is sitting on my dad's knee giggling and him feeding me mince, gravy and carrots, think i must have been around 2.

On a similar note I used to knock about with a disabled guy in a wheelchair at uni. When he was being a dick (quite often) I used to leave him at the bottom of hills in the rain etc. He soon learnt.

I remember a big party at my grannies, no idea why really. My da was blocked and gettin on so they told him to take me home. I can remember him loading the boot with deck chairs and a can of special brew held in his mouth, with his teeth holding the can at the rim. We then drove from the west to the north of the city in the cooling summer air. I can remember only snap shot like images of these events but the thing I remember clear as day was him taking me out the back garden and kicking the living daylights outta me, for nothing. Then he tried to make me stop crying by hitting me more and telling me to stop crying, I was doing that child thing when there is no crying left and it was more of a gasp than a cry. He left me out on the steps and told me not to come in until I had stopped crying. Oh how i miss the good old days

earliest memory is probably being in the dunnes stores on the shaws road, being at the front of the shop when some lad from the boys ran through the shop chased by what i can remember is 3 burly guys in navy overalls and balaclavas chased him. good times.

I can remember running like fuck from next doors house into my house, bolting up the stairs and getting into bed because I thought I could hear Wee Willy Winkie coming. My Da had told me he wore iron shoes for some reason and I was shit scared of him. I would have been about 3.

Orlaghs probably spoofin like when her mum told me that when she was about 4 she wouldn't eat tomato soup because apparently when she was in her womb she hated when her mum ate tomato soup because it used to fall on her head and she didn't like that...

I love how certain smells can set off a particular memory. The smell of coal can remind me (which is one of my earliest memories) of comin to Ireland as a child for the first time on holiday from Australia. I was about 4.
Smell of freshly cut grass reminds me of playin football & rubgy as a kid in Australia.

0 |

Aye, that purple Lynx shower gel reminds me of Mexico

0 |

the smell of freshly cut grass reminds me of the months after the great resin drought

0 |

Cut grass reminds me of camogie..chlorine of summer scheme in the 90's and turf for holidays in Donegal as a child, one for the women, impulse O2 reminds me of being an angry 10 year old

Sitting on a couch crying me lamps out as me ma had left me with the babysitter to go to work. Was an everyday occurrence but mustn't have liked it that day. Must have been about about 3 or 4 at the time. 1983 (FML, i'm old!).
