I don't know the full skinny but was told that the dance show by Mr Hamill wasn't going to be around any more. Correct me if i'm wrong.

If so i'd just like to say what a shame the news is as the guy supported and played a load of releases of ours and even 10 years ago Donna Legg promoted a charity night I was involved with. If it is true its a real loss to music in NI.

I didn't see a thread so.

I'd say the main ATL show is pretty safe given the huge success local bands have enjoyed in this past few years, the same could be said about the dance show, but I don't know how in tune commissioners would be about that.

Sweet, when's the other bit getting shelved? Can't be long now.

0 |

Never listened, but it's very obvious that Rigsy, Paul et al are very passionate about their music and for that reason I think it's a real shame.

But one door closes, etc...

Was told it was being talked about ages ago. The person said the beeb where happier with dead air zero broadcasting in the wee small hours as it was cheaper. Backwards mentality imo

0 |

think it may have already had its last show. Only listened to it a bit years ago but was always good, shame

0 |

think its bizarre that it was shut down. cant think of an alternative to what ATL did for that time of night. a real shame,

hope it's back soon enough

Yep. Last show was last week.

Sad to see it go as paul and all involved were so involved in the local and gave air time to so many local artists. I loved their thursday night show and the diverse range of music they played and covered, was a perfect reflection of what was happening here and the UK and was over the moon when i was asked on to dj. After the mix went down so well they hooked me up gigs with 1xtra and another on the show and played a number of my tracks. I owe the guys big time for that and what i liked was i knew none of them and they would always try and find new talent from here rather than being lazy and playing tracks from people they knew.

Lovely guys and a big part of the local music scene gone. Very sad

Pours out 40s for his dead hommies

Surely someone like blast 106 or another local radio show should do a similar show in the
same time slot?

0 |

I don't get the direction that Radio Ulster is going in. It has next to no music programming aimed at anyone below the age of 40 now. This surely will affect the listenership in the longterm - unless the longterm plan for the bbc is to faze out a lot of local content.

I think Nolan is going to take it over with shite reports of farmers markets by Hugo duncan

But seriously it's music output will be poor compared to Scotland and England. Surely we have cool fm and the utv station to cater for crap music

radio seems to be going the way of newspapers - local content is no longer deemed to be profitable enough and will be reduced to skeleton staff at the most. you have seen the same process in so many industries in the last 20 years and I just can't see how it can be avoided.

the fact the BBC is tax payer funded has probably sheltered itself from this to a large extent.

if there are gaps left behind, like a local dance show giving a platform for small artists and djs, then it will be filled by podcasts and the like.

i never listen to the radio live, all podcasts. would there be an avenue to do something along the lines of that maybe?

0 |

its a real shame that the dance show has gone. hamill and co did so much for local talent.

hopefully hamill takes alot of the mixes recorded and puts them up somewhere!

0 |

sad to hear, looking at the schedule for next sat from midnight to 6.45 is 5 live with Farm Gate the first local programmes of the day so Muzka it seems is bang on the money with his prediction.

Special shout to Paul Hamill, not only did he broadcast his last show on friday night but my son added insult to injury by fucking up his kite at Carnfunnock yesterday.

0 |

definitely, a real shame.

hopefully Paul will do some sort of podcast.

for me, that is the downside of the iplayer, as i only usually listen to mixes and radio shows when im out and about

0 |

I would doubt how safe it

0 |

I would doubt how safe it is if it's only getting a couple of hundred listeners. Must be why rigsy is branching out now.lol ;-)

The show should have been advertised a lot better, I know this isn't the fault of those involved but a lot of people were unaware of the show.

0 |

Hopefully Paul will put stuff up on Mixcloud.

dance music in this form is dead, in this cUntry. this is why.

0 |

I predict a resurgance of energy 106

0 |

are there any pirate stations operating in Belfast/ Northern Ireland in general?

0 |

Why would anyone operate a pirate radio station these days when they can run one on the internet?

0 |

For the increased listenership that comes as a result of the added cool factor apparent in doing something illegal.

Skankfm is local and has some decent shows
