Bit of a debate on facebook around their recent bookings

Personally think that although its hard to get good bookings, in business terms, in the recent economic climate that Shine/SK have went to the balls over the past few years. My opinion might be due to my musical tastes esp around dance but when I check their page for listings I rarely see anything I like or even know ffs

Saying that for around a decade or more Belfast was blessed with the bookings that esp Shine got

AS never liked techno!!

2nd or 3rd bday was my first, Emerson snack bar at the 4th was class. Remember seein Dave Clarke at the 2nd or 3rd ?

They require the services of a certain ben klock in mandella hall to reignite the rave in shine

0 |

What have the recent line ups been?

Do they ever bother with Super Shines these days?

Thought Summz played loop techno back in the day, no?

0 |

Belfast is generally shite like really.

0 |

Belfast is too wrapped up in the Berlin buzz imho.

Can't do jazz hands every weekend!

0 |

even the prices are ridiculous. Can only remember about a handful of good techno DJs in past years, alot of new dance music genres are pretty pish imo so I'm rarely drawn to these bookings

0 |

weres dj rush, surgeon, chris leibing, pet duo, dj bone, jeff mills for the craic

0 |

If other nights had a chance to grow a bit the scene would be a lot healthier for everyone.

Agents need to be lowballed too. They're chancer bastids who will normally take 40-50% of their initial asking price if there's some solidarity shown.

Basic rhythm is their saving grace. Great night and the only thing that shine productions is involved in that i would go to if i didn;t have my boycott in place. That's very much jack's (space dimension controller) baby, though.

0 |

surgeon played the last shine tonzer

0 |

i was in liverpool :(

0 |

Does AS put the kibosh on people doin their own big events in the QSU?

0 |

I always thought jack was roysta

0 |

*ronan ferg?

0 |

Not anymore, neddac. Has lost all his swing in the union. Pity the new management are cunts. Security wise anyhow.

Surgeon was basic rhythm that night i think? Not sure. Blawan is great aswell.

0 |

yea kev blawan sdc and surgeon was the lineup in the bar

The general public don't care about music. Even less so about new music. I've been involved in putting on a few nights that have had really good Djs on the bill (Bok Bok, Doc Daneeka, Swindle) and they didn't do well attendance wise. Put everything we had into promoting them (Bok Bok especially) but that type of Bass music was a bit niche for here. Going to see Jackmaster in stiff kitten a few months ago confirmed it for me. Was about 100 people there.

marco bailey was always a belter

friendorfaux, yeah the days of weekly nights ended years and the same can now be said for monthly nights by and large. Unless you have students involved you always fighting diminishing returns.

We barely do anything in Dublin these days.

Co-promotions and generally helping other crews is needed to make anything work. We can all take turns going to eachother's nights, that's about it.

*ended years ago

days of weekly nights

What can I say? I'm a wordsmith! :)

0 |

I was admiring your craft

I was in the SK last Saturday and relative to 2-3 years ago it was dead. Good night though.

0 |

Sorry, Saturday before last.

0 |

Summer's gig krytonite though.

0 |

Wordsmith status revoked

0 |

Stiff kitten is a terrible venue, though.

0 |

Used to go all the time when it opened and i could count on my hands how many proper good nights i had in it while watching acts and djs i liked.

0 |

Ha, took me a while to figure out why. It's a fair cop!

"Back In The Pile!!!!"

more atmosphere on teh moon ffs

Simmsy lost it when he came off the skag.

Was there for Beyer a few months back. Still busy enough. Just a bastard to get a taxi from since 2am close

0 |

The opening hours are what's really keepin people away really innit?

10 quid for 3 hours is pointless.

Do you get many afterhours parties going?

0 |

stiff a shite venue no doubt. only go if it's someone I really really like. had one really good night I can remember maybe 2/3 years ago Ben sims was playing.

shine productions are clearly making a killing doing other gigs and their trance night always rammed. will compared to the shine nights in Mandela hall.

Think now a good time to book klock for shine. hasn't been one in a while so reckon there be a good buzz for it. Big crowd and people could see a top dj they haven't heard off. I could be talking complete nonsense here

0 |

let's be honest ronan rant on Facebook is really why it's falling apart.

Lost credibility because of his refusal to not play Irelands best dj. no coming back from that.

0 |

Loads of all nighters popping up now ansd there has always been a healthy after party scene. Not the hours that are stopping people going out, it's the money situation these days but i'm sure there is many factors. I'm rarely excited about any club night in belfast these days but there are good illegal ones going on with locals.

0 |

surely its cause not as many peeps banging wee ones :(

0 |

If i lived in manchester, london (even though i'm not a fan of the place), berlin etc i'd be out all the time. Belfast is so hard to put on a great act in that isn't mainstream.

0 |

Ha, are they not!

0 |

are they waaaaaaaaaaaaaa ?

0 |

People are wanging pills all over the show. Make no mistake there haha.

0 |

this is all bollock, everyones going out, but for different reasons,

drinks and buckers - bouncing

clubs and rave - fucked

i blame the promoters, they are to busy running after wee boys promising buses.

there should be 3 rooms going in the SU (techno/deep house/drum & bassline)

wats the crack with the limelight?

0 |

Killing the Shine Board was a big business mistake ...

0 |

People aren't willing to pay a tenner to see a dj, for the most. From what i can see. Don;t blame em. Not many i would either.

It's owned by shine productions. Dodgy move for them in my opinion.

The best nights I eve had were Bugged Out when i was in uni in Liverpool. Usually had simliar lineups to Super Shines back in the day. Voodoo in liverpool was mint too. Techno is were its at. Music now sucks cock

0 |

Ah yes, there's no techno now. Forgot about that..........

0 |

aye boring deep house and disco.
