Impending food shortage

1

Haven't seen anything about this in the mainstream media but its starting to look pretty serious. The drought in the midwest US has been hitting corn, wheat and soybean harvests and weather models don't show any sign of improvement. USDA crop report on Wednesday is expected to cut output expectations significantly (from 14.79billion bushels to 13.5billion bushels on corn). 40% of bean crop reported good/excellent down from 66% last year and 40% reported good/excellent on corn down from 69% last year. Front month corn futures are up over 40% in the last few weeks and still big Chinese buying...

Maybe we'll get boat loads of yanks coming over for our spuds, in years to come the population of the US will half and they will all live in Ireland. 100 years or so later the Irish will see an American and be like 'Hey I'm part American ya know'

0 |

I can see the news now 'Average American has only enough food for themselves' a bitter day as the drought takes hold and Americans are forced to eat only 3 meals per day + snacks

0 |

Yeah pavlov. US midwest produces more corn that the next 10 major producers added together. And the wheat crop is getting hit too so no benefit of substitution. Russia case was blown out of proportion, even if they had the same production levels as the US, they dont have the infrastructure to export it

What about the frozen orange juice prices?

0 |

this can't be happening. i'm about to start a bulk. going to have to do a cycle to counter the limited food

0 |

"I can see the news now 'Average American has only enough food for themselves' a bitter day as the drought takes hold and Americans are forced to eat only 3 meals per day + snacks"

The US exports about 20% of its corn and 50% of it wheat and about the same on beans so it wont be the only place affected.

Frozen orange juice is off about 40% form the Jan highs cmk. Nice Trading Places reference

Look for interest in the long-forgotten Pot Casserole to rise sharply over the next snackfood interim pre-Holiday period Blorp Window.

say a lot of crop ruined over here and Britain with the rain

0 |

Sure this is more likely to hit the economy than people's bellies.

0 |

On a smaller scale, crops have been affected locally too by all the rain

Ive been waiting for u billy-ray

Any word on the prices of whey?

@ Wayne... People suggested that it was the rising price of wheat that sparked off the arab rising last year... The less welll off are struggling to make ends meet at the minute.... another bout of food inflation is probably not what they need tbf. It will affect both the economy and peoples bellies.

spot on pavlov.

The gulf between those that have and have not is increasing I say and very significantly and yet very quietly because families are still poor but their kids are having to run about with a smartphone while they get in debt or do without heat or good food.

"because families are still poor but their kids are having to run about with a smartphone"

Gckiens mostly feed on corn. Could be shortages.

0 |

0 |

Gckiens?

0 |

Corn is in everything from shampoo to talc powder, ice cream and processed cheese.

Most cows feed on it too.

0 |

all the cows i know feed on fast food. And talc is not required this year as it has not been hot enough

Judging on the summer we've had, we'll be okay

0 |

the rain here has cause a lot of damage to crops. its all about the volatility as well as extremity of the weather

Corn and crops are commodities not equities innit

there are two types of bacteria in your mouth, one of which causes tooth decay and one type of bacteria that actually fights against this evil bacteria. about 10/15 years ago there was a breakthrough in the fields of oral science and a pill/drug was developed to inhibit the creation of this bad bacteria but glaxosmithkline/colgate etc prevented the patent from going through to the public or something in order to keep on selling us shitty toothbrushes and toothpaste
