Quitting Smoking!

1

Day 2 off the cigs, getting mad cravings and pacing up and down the house. I've been smoking for 15 years and started of on 10 a day but steadily built up to 20-30 a day. Kept having throat problems and said enough is enough! Doc wouldn't give me those champix tablets for medical reasons so I chose the gum and the little lozenges. This is only my 2nd time in 15 years were I've been serious about giving up.......Does anyone else share my withdrawal emotions??

Never smoked but keep it up mate, youre doing great. Stay off them if you can pal.

Was off them for 7 months before i went to poland for the footy, back on them morso than before, need to get back in the corrwct frame of mind to give it another go

0 |

Aye it's easy to let your guard down.... especially when your out with the boys drinking

0 |

Try the Allen Carr book. Worked for me

0 |

Until recently, I smoked when drinking. But after a weekend of it, I had enough. So knocked it on the head.

0 |

i found it easy as to stop, 18 months without a puff. then just started again for something to do. only with a drink tho, which i've cut to only 1 night a week.

0 |

lol @ smoking for something to do

0 |

Get yourself to the hypnotist. Four years I'm off them. It did take three visits!

0 |

Mark what does that camp idiot know about quitting smoking? He could fit fegs in the gaps of his teeth

0 |

He's Alan Carr but

0 |

I was joking by the way

0 |

I no Chris was going to say he went from smoking 40 wabs a day to none.

0 |

One Skinners of pure green. That is the secret. Go cold turkey and when u are out and busting, light one of those up. It worked for me. And I didn't trade one vice for another. Good luck.

0 |

Lol @ rigsy.. as I was reading that post, I was wondering what she was on about as the book is very clearly about stopping smoking.. til I got to the punchline. Silly bint

1 hour with the patch on. Going good so far. Anyone use patches before? I have 21 mgs, and working a lot better than I thought.

0 |

Read the Alan Carr book

0 |

serious nightmares if you leave the patch on before sleepin. Everyone's different in what works. The lozenges where working for me but ive ran out and started smoking again ffs

0 |

I was on them for a while munchingmonster - just remember to take them off when you try to go to bed.

I found them to be a bit pants, the minute you realise you have left for work without remembering to put one on you realise that you haven't really got off the fags...you've just changed your method of dosing yourself.

Made me realise how much I am addicted to nicotine, versus habit factor.

I kept forgetting to put the patch on, and now I'm back to smoking again.

That means I have failed on inhalator, failed cold turkey, failed on patches, failed on champix and failed on hypnosis. I am shit at stopping smoking. Because I really quite enjoy fegs. :(

0 |

Definitely take the patch off in bed. Crazy dreams

0 |

good tip. i will.

0 |

ceri - did you read the carr book? I did hear from a few people that it helped with will power.

0 |

Got an electronic woodbine there so gonna start using it in the run up to totally quitting once in the new house and have a new lifestyle.

0 |

ceri - also did you stick to the plan of decreasing mgs over the weeks? What is it exactly. Dont have the box here. 4 weeks on 21, 4 weeks on 14, 4 on 7?

0 |

I was on patches before and I used to leave it on at night as I enjoyed the fucking mental dreams.

0 |

The book works 100% if you read it properly.

0 |

I have the 2 discs from the book, but haven't read the book. The discs are really good too though. Anytime I listen to them I wouldn't feel like a smoke for ages as a lot of the stuff he talks about is still in my head.

0 |

left to right?

0 |

For anybody thinking of stopping smoking, but not today, there are 50g packets of Golden Virginia on the go for a tenner. PM me

0 |

the thing is i enjoy a smoke. i like nicotine, i enjoy inhaling and blowing out smoke, tried a few e cigarettes and they were shite, unreliable vapour and crap battery life, did a bit of research on them and bought this - www.ukecigstore.com/in...

that's me off the analogues completely. loving this electronic one and completely addicted to it.

0 |

battery will last a few days.

0 |

thats very similar to the one i bought, vision ego from ecigwizard

i managed to break the top of it leaving it in my work bag though and had to get a replacement but apart from my stupidity its all good.

those electric cigs are so ridiculous.

if you have real ambitions to give up the smokes read that book (worked for me after smoking 10 years, 20 a day and having failed a quitting effort the year before), get rid of the nicotine aids and do it proper. once you make a decision which you know is right in your mind, its easier than you think.

the book explains it much better of course.

I haven't read the book, althought I've put it on my kindle a few times...then taken it off again.

I didn't even get far enough with the patches to decrease mgs....only got about 5weeks into it and then flopped again.

I will def have to do the book now tho, I've pretty much tried everything else, except the electronic fags...because I don;t like the taste of the vapour.

The champix was the best for me - although they made me ill and cranky, and dehydrated. I only stated on them 4 weeks, then stopped but stayed off the fags another 4 months after that. That is the longest I'v ever lasted - but they were so horrible I don't want to risk taking them again.

Def try the book Ceri, breaking your addiction to nicotine completely is the only sure way...all this NRT is bollocks, nothing but a money spinner and you're only prolonging the process thereby making it more likely that you will crumble. A break from routine like a few days away is a good way to get some time under your belt then just keep er (not) lit.

*lights up feg*

0 |

I mean breaking your consumption completely...I don't think the addiction ever truly goes away :(

0 |

Just stop smoking. It really is the simplest and cheapest way.

0 |

Just look at the positives as opposed to the negatives. You will:

be healthier
be richer
not smell like an ashtray
not have to stand on street or in designated areas like a leper

I did an accelerated course of patches (by my own choice). Did 4 weeks just to help the withdrawal and then the rest was down self-control and not smoking when I was drinking

0 |

thats how i would like to do it. Might just go through all 21mgs til there done, then buy 14's. I just want to disassociate the feeling of nicotene from cigarettes. The 21s arent exactly as good as if i was smoking, and I smoke lights, so i think I will learn how to cope better with urges. I will maybe grab the book if this attempt fails, though hopefully I dont need to get it.

I don't like those e-cigarettes, sometimes I would inadvertently puff on the thing for half hour when talking to folks, and still not get any enjoyment from it. I have a little trick i use to get me motivated. I imagine myself, 70, with emphysema in shitty NHS hospital, on the oxegen mask, thinking to myself, that if only I could go back and time, and tell my younger self to quit. It's ok hearing from other people, but when you imagine your older self saying it, it has more klout. Ive been in hospital in a ward full elderly. Was not nice.

Pics?

Used the electric fegs for a few weeks. Off them six months nearly. Still miss them and have near crumbled once or twice when blocked but just managed to keep it sweet. My advice would be all our nothing. No cheating. Tried the book and had to put it down. He's a dick. Didn't like that cunt at all.

I have health problems anyway, and much to my dismay I instantly feel plenty of additional health benefits aside from the usual smoking related stuff, and yet it doesn't stop smoking being my go to in times of stress.

I just need to take a massive wise.

Will def read the book soon.

All or nothing*

0 |

try different vapours ceri, there's loads. if there's some kind of general taste you think all vapours have, you'll get used to it. it can't be considered a nasty taste compared to fegs themselves, you got used to those.

with a good electronic cig you get all the stress and social benefits of nicotine/smoking. and stress directly impacts your gut health and immune system.

also all the benefits of giving up that redman mentioned will be had too..

"be healthier
be richer
not smell like an ashtray
not have to stand on street or in designated areas like a leper"

VAPE!!

0 |

see that's the thing Alegend - my health issues are my gut. Smoking really fucks it up, but so does stress. Even my specialist in the hospital says that when I try to stop smoking, or have exams it shows up physically in as bad a flare up as a naturally triggered one.

Thos that has been my get out clause for years.

I need to (wo)man the fuck up and just get it sorted.

I do like fegs tho :(

0 |

you tried this one ceri?

www.ecigwizard.com/ele...

0 |

Since I quit my stomach problems have nearly entirely cleared up.

Mind you eating a few more meals at the weekend makes a difference too.

0 |

Here's the one I got lol... www.electriczebra.com

Wanted to get something a bit rare looking so I'll want to use it less and hopefully speed up the cutting down process.
