Bank Account

Is there any kind of bank account you can lodge money into and not be able to touch it unless you put in a request?
Tryin to save a bit for a house and don't want the temptation of spending it easily!

you can open long term savings account. you get better interest and cant touch it for a certain period such as 1,2,3,4,5 years

even better if you get one of the isas long term savings account then you dont pay tax on it

Thanks Muzka.....must check that out with my bank and see if they offer such a scheme. Can it even be based on a monthly request rather than 1,2,3,4,5 years?

some let you make one withdrawl then charge after that while others take one years interest if you close it before the time is up

maybe you can set one up that requires 24hr notice to make a withdrawl so to put you off dipping into it

See? You KNOW youre shit at those things.

think moneysavingexpert has info on this sort of thing- certain accounts ur allowed 1 or 2 withdrawals per year or u get fined afaik? or maybe they just close the account. or u could open an account & give the details to a trustworthy relative?

Fixed Term Savings normally have a minimum deposit, as well. £500 in some places.

Sorted....Post Office is the best place for me. Ye need to give a months notice to withdraw/transfer money to your current account which is exactly what I wanted.

I am a complete idiot when it comes to bank stuff so wondering if someone can help. Went to a few ATM's this morning to check my balance and each time it said the card issuer was unavailable. I sorta knew how much i had in my account and took everything in it out. Just a while ago i went and checked my balance and all my money is still in my account even though i took everything out earlier. Should i be expecting this to be taken out soon or is it free money for me? Probably a stupid question

Sure then you could just wait a month and still withdraw

ccorbett - takes a while for the transactions to show up sometimes. Lift out extra and you'll owe it back plus an unauthorised overdraft charge, most likely.

Ahh right, cheers
