Car Stereos

1

I'm looking to get a pretty bog standard one with a CD player and preferably an Aux input for my ipod, but I would need it fitted because I am useless. Halfords charge 30 quid for a fitting, any of yousins know where I can get it done cheaper?

There is actually bugger all wrong with my stereo but I had to disconnect the battery and have no idea how to get a code for it.

I can get you one cheap, no questions asked like.

Good condition, just a couple of screwdriver marks to one side.

Anyone got an old Vauxhall stereo with tape deck?

0 |

I had one in my nova Mart, tiemz!

Lol,. any idea where it is now so I can screwdriver it outta there? ;)

Keep an eye on gumtree Debbie, there is a cat audio section with quite a bit of movement

It can't be difficult to install Debbie. Look up a couple of youtube videos to see. More or less just disconnecting wires then reconnecting them to new stereo. I can't see how it would be any more complicated than that.

I can't even get the current stereo out. Took a couple of screwdrivers to it and nearly wrecked it and myself. I think there is a special tool I need to buy just to remove it.

Think I will just pay through the nose to have some pleasant chap at halfords do it all for me while I stand and watch.

The aul cat audio section is usually fairly quiet.

Suppose that makes sense to have a special tool. Otherwise it'd be easy to steal a car stereo. Ring a couple of car mechanics to see if they'll help you. Might end up being half the price. Some of them places even provide blow jobs while you wait. Apparently.

Bring back mix tapes.

I'm going to spend this week making mixtapes (cds) to play in the motor this weekend. Daytrip!!!

I used to love getting an aul freebie mixtape with one of the music mags back in the day and playing it to death in the wee Nova Saloon.

There are specific tools for different makes of stereos. Although the head unit end connection is usually standard, there can be different connection types for where the cables come from the dash, for different car manufacturers, but presumably the right connections can be bought from wherever it is you are buying the unit.

that first sentence was meant to read ...There are specific tools for removing stereos, but they are not all the same, sometimes it depends on the metal casing around it.

Good to see ya on here Gus!

The retailer for the car can give you the code for the radio. Failing that if you go to an outlet for the cars manufacturer they will be able to supply it if you give them your reg.

I had to do this with my clio, went to renault to get the code, it cost me 20quid, but its a good bit cheaper than getting a new stereo fitted.

0 |

That's probably a better idea tbh!

0 |

i ahve an ole 10 cd changer and stereo you can have if you want......i just stuck it up in the attic.....its there if you want it

0 |

The obvious might have already been mentioned but incase it hasnt .... have you looked at all of your manuals and service books etc pack for the code ? Sometimes the 4 or 5 digit code is written or typed on a page, bit of paper or sticker in the pack.

0 |

Yeah I checked all that, it's a 10 year old second hand car. Will try calling into a ford dealer and see how much a code is.

pmed ya debbie

Aul Dodgy Fingers there ;)

0 |

lol no i just gave her the autospark i used that fitted exactly what i wanted which is exactly what she is also looking lol, nothin dodgy haha ;)

0 |

Would said autospark be able to diagnose and fix my Mondeo's non operational cd player?

0 |

the code is often either on a sticker on the back of the standard ford stereos or on the manual for the car btw? 2 knives are usually easier to ease it out (no iv never stole 1 but ive owned many fords and always changed the head unit to a kenwood myself £30 is a stroke for an easy job) lol

0 |

defo harry, pmed details and number to u buddy

Chars Wax!

0 |

glad to help :)

0 |

Some good info wax,

just out of general interest, does putting the code on the back not completely defeat the purpose of having a code in the first place?
completely daft if it is like. haha

0 |

i agree it is odd that older ford models had this but then again the common car theif didnt go for standard head units did he? it was aftermarket expensive ones, ive have a double din 4000 from a fiesta 2004 i owned in the attic and the code is on the back of it on a sticker, other manufacturers had a way of bypassing the code if fitted to the same model of car by tuning the ignition then when code comes up u just hit enter and it worked, daft i agree but true lol

I need to get a standard cd player fitted and all, wheres cheapest?

Still about to get one, there's a vid on YouTube showing how to install an earlier model of the stereo I fancy...

If I get the stereo removal tool is it do able by some one who knows little but follows the video?

Failing that anyone know who can fit for cheap?

0 |

Waxy recommended me a great wee place in Newtownabbey MTB, in behind Toys R Us.

I ended up having to just stick with my original stereo but the chap fixed it for me and fastened it in place for £20 - did in in an hour while I went shappin' up the road.
