must do - trannies!

0 |

Koh Tao for diving. Honey cottages near Bophut on samui is awesome & has an amazing beach. Quiet though so no use if you're looking partying. Fish market/cafes near the top of chaweng town is class and cheap!

0 |

I WANT TO GO!

0 |

who wants a ladyboy massage

0 |

thanks Jlo ill look up honey cottages sounds great :D want quiet and lively cos ill get bored laying around

0 |

Go north!

0 |

Khao Sok national park is amazing. Stay in treehouses with monkeys.

0 |

ooooh ^^ im reading about staying on Maya Bay (the beach) overnight - might be a bit meh but I reckon it'd be wall to wall tourists during the day - anyone been? id rather try to camp with a group of 20 then bother during the day

There are so many people going to Thailand now, it's become the new Ibiza or Magaluf holiday for young people. Someone heads over almost every week. I kind of want to go, but the amount of people going now is putting me off.

0 |

its only like that if you want it to be. definitely not my idea of a good time tbh.

0 |

They all head there and come back claiming to be cultured because they visited the far east. Rather, they lie in a crumpled mess somewhere after getting a good bum fuck from some handsome ladyboy.

0 |

s speaks volumes of teh twoof from prior experience mefinx!

0 |

They all head their for cheap booze, good looking women, great weather and serious craic... Imagine! Fuckig cheek of young people looking somewhere great to party... not every holiday has to be a trek to some amazonian hill tribe ffs

0 |

booze isnt really that cheap tbf

0 |

Thailand is bate out/played out...its all about cambodia, laos and vietnam

I've heard thailand has got more expensive

Yap yap yap

Cat you HAVE to go to jj weekend market in Bangkok.. You will have the best time of you life ;-) try and go on a saturday cause then if you not get round it all you cn go back on Sunday... So so so so jealous!!

0 |

I'm not jealous. A wee (completely undeserved) spell in a Bangkok jail ended any Thai love affair I might of had.

Dunno where PJ is coming from, booze is super cheap, esp compared to OZ. As are the benzo's. Utilize both imo. I been a couple of times, for a couple of months each time. My advice would be don't try and do everything. If staying in Koh Samui time it with a full moon party on Koh Phangan. Sure they might be 'bate out' and there def was a more commercial, more rip off and less friendly attitude in 2009 than 2006 but its still one hell of a party and def worth checking out.

The Similan islands in the Adaman Sea are truly stunning, staying on Raliegh or Ao Nang beach gives you the perfect base from which to explore them. It's also where the charter ferries to Koh Phi Phi. If your into rock climbing/treking the limestone cliffs around Krabi are also really accessible from those beaches. Plus the nightlife isn't dominated by hookers an ladyboys.

Enjoy! Just avoid the cops at all costs.

0 |

fun is so last year. complaining from a high horse is where it's at!

0 |

'avoid the cops at all costs'

always. everywhere.

0 |

fuck thailand, fuck it to hell Im gonna stay at home and ive off about being having fun - dirty rotten fun!

DB no full moon party unfortunately - could get it off work so hopefully we'l be able to go to a half moon or black moon.Krabi sounds great!

0 |

i told myself the last time in was in thailand i wasnt going back, - im probably blaming a bangkok melted weekend for that but over all i think India cambodia and vietnam are much much better value for money and pretty similar craic - pleanty of beachs and plenty of parties, less melters chasing you about trying to con as much cash out of you as possible, you just seem to accept getting stroked after a while, but its the cheek and the sneak of some of them that pissed me off.

0 |

wont be going near Bangkok - strictly paradise please!

0 |

Buying a (stubby) tin of beer in a shop is about a pound or more (80 -100 baht depending on where you are an wat beer it is). if you're drinking buckets its cheaper aye but its the cheapest nastiest shit imaginable. and then theres samgsong the booze of a thousand hangovers. wine is a clean fortune. This is mainly on the islands.

Comparing it to Australia doesnt make any sense, as i havent been there.

If you're looking to go to the parties and that fair enough, but theres a massive beautiful country with lots to see and do that doesnt involve getting off your head.

0 |

Been twice. Sometimes I wanna go back then other times I think there must be better places out there.

My only advice: Stay away from Pattaya

0 |

im planning to do a round the world trip when im 50. hope thailand isnt bate out by then or oil prices means flights are prohibitively expensive!

0 |

They predict oil will have doubled in price in the next 10 years. Something to look forward to.

0 |

that will be the catalyst for green renewable energies im sure of it. we cant go on living like we are on a finite source of energy.

0 |

Why are people suggesting other parts of Thailand or even other countries for that matter ffs, shes only going for 2 weeks so stick to the islands, Samui, Kho Tao... Traveling up and down the country is pointless given the time frame. And not that im sure you will but dont listen to anyone who says its bate out. Its exactly as it was 3 years after the Beach came out in film.

As for conning, theres more of that goes on in Vietnam than Thailand. Give Thailand is more of a tourist destination it maybe just appears that way.

Go to Chiang Mai in the north if you can. Amazing city. Very small but you can rent out a bike and drive to temples in the mountains and cruise round the city. Great place for doing cooking courses, massage courses, elephant treks, whitewater rafting. One of my favourite places in Thailand and Ive been about 9 times. Ko Tao was my favourite island. Samui wasnt great. very touristy like much of thailand now but theres a tesco and mcdonalds here. disgusting. Phi Phi is class. just do a day trip to maya bay (the beach) and try and do a night dive/ snorkel to see the phosphorescence. Amazing.

Ko pha ngan is class for partying and you really should try and see in a full moon party. great experience. mental. if you cant make that the half moon and black moons are pretty good too. Ko lanta, pattaya are handy to get to from bangkok and are great places to chill on the beach for a few days. what a country

0 |

I got Kidnapped in Bangkok!

0 |

Chiang Mai was nice. I prefer the islands though.

Anyone watch the show about the ladyboys last night? 6 part series.

My mate just texted me this morning (out of the blue!) asking am i interested in the following travels:

nov-jan: oz, nz & fiji, then s.america for carnival in feb, follow it through each country spending feb-june south & central america calling up to san fran in july and maybe aug and sep in new york.

he reckons it will cost circa £15k or more. said he was going to check out booking it through sta travel. what yas reckon? it isn't really the route i had in mind for traveling. i would have finished in oz with a view to staying there for a good few years if the right job came up.

0 |

Duno if it's more or less important to start or finish in Oz, you can always fly back to work after if you like it there as after a year away you might wana come home and see mummy quickly before going across the world to work again.

The only thing I would say is 3 months in Oz, NZ and Fiji is gona cost you (well NZ and Oz anyway (especailly Oz)). Personally I would skip Oz unless you are working there if your budget is £15k including flights etc as when you are spending GBP it is fucking expensive. You need £20 per night or more for a bed in a shared dorm, then prob £10-15 just for basic food you cook yourself in a shared kitchen and then travelling and tours and booze (stupidly expensive) etc all on top. In south America £20 per day would cover all the above including eating in local restaurants where you dont have to be fucked with cooking and washing yourself.

personally i would be spending some time in S E Asia instead, then NZ for a month, Fiji then SA etc. Then if you don't feel too homesick after a year hit Oz, get a job and enjoy it properly.

0 |

That is a good point = would be good to get back home for a bit before splitting again. It is a lot of money to be blowing to be fair. Could use a good whack of it to get yourself somewhere to live: eg. www.propertypal.com/36... £55k - not bad. near a pylon and a bit up the road

0 |

Agree with Cedric If you're serious about moving to Oz then defo do all your travelling first and then arrive in oz to work for a year. We never got round to South America because we ended up settling here, will definitely do it at some point.

Your mates got it all arse about BTW, 15K could see you a whole year around the world if you play it smart. S.E Asia and South America far more interesting destinations than Oz or NZ/Fiji for travelling and will cost you a 1/3 of the price. In any case do it!! Best thing you'll ever do gauranteed!

0 |

phi phi is a great wee island, stay away from koh samui nothing much to do, koh phangan is lovely place, not where the full moon party goes on the other side of the island (full moon was great fun, esp mellow mountain bar). Pattaya mmm had a great time there, just for the randomness of the place lol me and my girlfriend didnt except the place to be like that, it was a stop other from koh chang. Koh chang is a lovely place but if you only have two weeks its a bit out of the way kathy.

enjoy

0 |

stop over***

0 |

Got to love the way tourists say that some were is too touristy. If people like you didnt go then it wouldnt be. so stop complaining about or stay at home

0 |

fucking tourists!!! I'm a god damn local wherever the fuck i go!!!

0 |

i went to vietnam for a month and didnt get stroked once or even witness or speak to any fellow travellers who got stroked or suffered a bit of crime....but I spoke to plenty who had travelled through from thailand and complained of either being ripped off, and of it not being as cheap as you would think

0 |

If you don't know your money, you'll get stroked in vietnam but other than that, it didn't have anywhere near as many pick pockets or bother as thailand. Watch how much you drink in thailand and don't go off on your own and your fine. Pick pockets target pissed up ones on their todd.

0 |

Culturally, vietnam is far better in my opinion.

0 |

loved it....wanting to go back soon and also go to laos.....but I been invited to brazil for christmas and new year so I'll be saving my pennies for that :D

0 |

yeah...mate married a brazilian girl....theres a few of us going over...where you spending yours? Twinbrook?

0 |

I wasn't keen on rio or sao paulo but didn't ahve that long in them. Loved laos.

0 |

Almost impossible not to get ripped off in a Tuk Tuk in Bangkok. Had an experience where before setting off on a Tuk Tuk to the Grand Palace, i told the driver i know the score, that he gets petrol vouchers etc for taking you to shops. I said if you dont do that, ill give you a decent tip at the end instead. Still ended up going to a suit shop and gem store ffs, so he got no tip. Koh Tao was my fav place in Thailand.

0 |

That's you told!

0 |

Ron do not spend your money on a shitty £55k house in NI. Go travelling instead.

Each to their own Kev but I fuckin loved Rio, even though I got a knife held to my throat and my wallet taken from me by 5 large coloured fellows. That aside it's a beautiful, vibrant city.

Fuck i wana get away again. Would love to spend a decent amount of time in Columbia and Central America.

0 |

Compared to the other countries i went to, it was the weakest but i realise the size of brazil so i know little really. Rio could be a dodgy hole for sure. Expensive aswell.
