I know someone who made 7,000 a month on the mines just welding. They are offering permanent visas quickly if people can fill the jobs.

Was a good wee cop series on over here set in mining towns - all men - with far too much cash and no rent and nothing to spend it in so massively overpriced drugs prossies and fast cars are all shipped in specially

Documentary?

0 |

Haha

0 |

Sound like auf wiedersehen pet

0 |

i did it for 3 years. its a good way to save money but it's pretty boring living out on a "mine worker resort" for 2 or 3 weeks at a time with a load of blokes.

0 |

with all these super wages, what is the cost of living

0 |

$10

0 |

perth is expensive.
the universal cost of living indicator (a pint) was about $8/9 in most city bars and clubs. I once paid $11 for a pint of Asahi.

$9 is about 5.60

0 |

Majority of people earn nothing like those amounts and live comfortably

0 |

munchingmonster- it wasnt fiction it was a fly on the wall cop show, so it was all actually happening, a lot of young single dumb blokes stuck out these remote towns with far too much cash!!

0 |

my mates drove up the west coast at xmas and a couple came back to sydney early because it was so expensive- i think it must be much more expensive over there than sydney!

0 |

that's commie talk leanneM

0 |

Watching it now. Mental. How many aussie words do they stick bo on the end? I've got rumbo, ambo, abbo.

0 |

An Australian mining magnate has been declared the richest woman in the world.

Gina Rinehart is now said to be worth 29 billion Australian dollars ($28.2bn), having increased her wealth by nearly A$19bn ($18.5bn) in the past year.

Couldnt recommend Australia highly enough to anyone who has never been. Lived there for a year and visited every state and territory except Australian Antarctic Territory. Absolutely stunning place to travel around and theres stupid money to be made.

I'll definitely be back.

ok arnold

Signed on the dotted line today. That's me sphonsered. Have preferred stock options and a dental plan. Have to wait 6 months before I can cash in the stock and buy a load of barns. But there's nothing stopping me getting a big luxury set of dentures. It is a pity that I grow weary of this country. Maybe summer will perk ones spirits up.

Iron ore prices have been getting hammered the last few months are now well below what was considered the $120 floor (cost of production). Going to have to be supply cuts. Also, Macquarie reckon if commodity prices (namely base, iron ore, steel, coking coal) dont recover the Aussie government would need to enforce A$10bio of cuts to achieve a 2013 surplus.

if the ozzies had been raking it in why didnt they're government put money aside in anticipation of this?.. and why do you never hear mention of the nordic countries (apart from iceland) when it comes to recession, dept etc... seems the vikings know how to horde money

0 |

The likes of Sweden and Norway have the advantage over the rest of Europe in the control of their own fiscal and monetary policies. Also, both are predomiantly export driven economies - Norway being energy rich and Sweden having a well diversified export market of timber, iron ore, hydropower, pharma, automotive, etc

There is/was an aussie mining boom, but how much of that cash actually made it to an average australian? Not much. Just inflated household debt due to rocketing property prices and cost of living.

meanwhile those resources are gone forever. The incredibly high value of the aussie dollar is also making it near on impossible for non mining industries to do business abroad.

ps i think iron ore fell below $100 this week.

There is/was an aussie mining boom, but how much of that cash actually made it to an average australian? Not much. Just inflated household debt due to rocketing property prices and cost of living.

Aussies are globally comparatively very rich and globally comparatively incredibly stupid. I'm fairly well qualified to make this assumption. Having worked in sales over here for the last year talking to in excess of 100,000 of them.

The amount of government money they get shoved down their throat is sick. The Labour/Green coalition had a month long ad campaign telling people to claim the extra $2000 a year household assistance they gave everyone in the wake of the carbon tax. That's just a tiny example. The average solar system I sell is subsidised by the government by $3,750. Then the government pay a state backed Feed in Tariff that up untill last month on a 5kw systen was worth $140,000 to a householder in QLD.

There is shit loads of government money available to aussie citizens. Eg the 'least' before disability or anything else a single mum gets with one kid is 400 pounds a week. And she can work 10 or 15 hours a week.

However the people are generally idiots. Australia spends more per capita than any other country on gambling - and the vast vast majority of that goes straight into fruit machines. They sit their dead eyed pumping plastic note after plastic note into machines. This is there no real bars. There is no bar culture in oz. You have social clubs. Bars absolutely full of fruit machines that pay out at 70%.

Thats a tiny example, its just the general lack of intelligence among the people. I'm the top sales person in my company and it's piss easy to manipulate these cunts. It sounds bad. But believe me if you had to field the sheer primary school enquiries I have to on a daily basis- eg I get asked at least once a week do solar panels work at night. Seriously. Its like taking candy from a baby. It drains me. If I wasn't selling somthing I actually believed in then i'd of cut my wrists a long time ago.

Regards the economy, I think the cracks are beginning to show. BHP biliton postponing the building of the olympic damn - a $26.8billion mining project in South Australia casued the AUD to drop from 67 to 65c against the pound. I view this as the start of a trend. I'm moving $3000 out of the country and into euros each month because I believe there is a major correction about to happen. Remember it was about 10 years ago that one pound was worth $3. 6 weeks ago it was worth 68c now its worth 65c.

I could go on, but I've got one more day to do before the weekend. Fuck im getting drunk this weekend.

0 |

yeah the aussie dollar has to be massively overvalued.
When that Olympic Dam project got announced the leading story on the news that night was "mining boom ends"
I've got another year here to squirrel as much cash out of their country as i can before i get back to civilisation. Thank God

Of course some Australians are incredibly clever, and they are making an absolute fortune. There is also a huge amount of corruption in this country.

Australia, under the labor/green collation likes to see itself as one of the most progressive countries in the world. Banning branding on cigarettes, the introduction of the carbon tax.

The carbon tax - particularly developing the 'back end' the legal battles, the administration has cost almost as much as a war effort.

However, 3 months ago, buried around page 8/9 of the Herald and Sun (Austalia's largest selling newspaper) was an article stating that the green light had been given to the mining and export of Victoria's Billion's of tonnes of brown coal reserves.

Brown coal is possibly the most polluting commodity available on the open market - to put in into context a kilo of black coal burnt will produce 1 kg of CO2. 1kg of brown coal burnt will produce 1.6kg of CO2. Brown coal is basically 100,000 years in the ground longer than turf. This is going straight to india at rock bottom prices. Yet they tax carbon for 22 million people in Australia.

www.heraldsun.com.au/n...

The Herald Sun is part of Fairfax media, a group that Gina Reinhart (worlds richest woman and mining magnet) bought a serious stake in, it is a major, if not the biggest player in Australia's media.

I also found out recently just how cheap solar panels really are. Its sick. 500% profit on the equipment. Of course thats not the real cos, still got to put them on rooves and pay cunts like me to sell em. But buying somthing for $3800, selling (inc subsidy) for $17,400 is good bushniess.

0 |

start your own business then, undercut them if it is that much of margin.
