For those still living in the dark ages with torrents:

ISPs to block Pirate Bay within weeks

TOR.

or VPN

still, this move will obviously boost music sales and pull us out of recession

0 |

Scundered at people still using torrents

0 |

I use them all the time, I'm not paying to rip off people.

0 |

What's the alternative for free stuff?

0 |

Queue a quip from
Pavlova about student loans etc - yawn

0 |

isohunt or torrentz

Doesn't really matter, everything is moving towards magnet links, which are decentralised even further, they don't require a specific tracker.

0 |

I use isohunt but I meant as an alternative to torrents- what sites do u use otherwise?

0 |

Ah, deckard and them are undoubtedly talking about Newsbin or something like that. Direct downloads.

0 |

Fuck paying for pirated stuff, private torrent sites are the way to go.

0 |

Isps down south are doing this now. torrents are pure shite anyway, there as slow as a slow poo.

0 |

Not a fan of private torrent sites, the whole concept of leaving my PC on for 4 days to get my ratio back to 1.00 after getting 1 HD film baffles me

0 |

Meant -Cue not queue
I have no issue with torrents but then I'm not flat out on the downloads just every so often

If your smart you can get on private torrent sites that don't have ratios

0 |

Deckard, if you're needing to wait 4 days for 1:1 ratio, you're doing it wrong. I generally have a positive ratio on most torrents these days (even without using private trackers) because my cable connection download speeds aren't negated by the upload speeds.

0 |

I must not be smart then.

Used torrents for years, prefer paying a subscription to newsgroups:

- faster download speeds
- better quality and range of content
- no ratios
- safer

0 |

my upload speed is something silly like 2Mb/s, my average film download is 15GB

4 days might have been excessive but I prefer being able to grab content and shut the PC down

0 |

Yeah sorry didn't mean to come across like a dick.
If it's easier for you then fair enough, just saying you can have all those benefits with torrents as well, you just need to be willing to do a bit of research first.

0 |

Oh yeh and no need to use TOR to bypass TPB block. this link should still work.

torrents are shite/slow?

5-20 minutes for a film doesn't bother me, and thats all it ever takes.

0 |

Sorry leanne... I'll let that lie with the other board now...

0 |

torrents is fine for people that are happy with xvids

for those that what high quality content, torrents doesn't cut it

If there was a legit digital service of similar quality I'd jump ship to it.

0 |

I've rarely seen torrents max out a line either unless it is very well seeded.

newsgroups, everytime..max download speed

looking forward to maxing out my new 60Mb line this weekend

0 |

I constantly max out my 100Mb cable line, downloaded Family Guy there in less than 30 seconds, a 1080p movie in about 20 minutes. Until the media itself starts to get bigger, torrents are currently fast enough for me.

0 |

Anyway, not to turn this into a cock-swinging contest like most threads - I think torrents are fast and quality enough for most people. Closing off simple access to Pirate Bay will do nothing, except hopefully push the creators of that site to build something even more undetectable.

0 |

Impressive torrent speeds, my experience of torrents wouldn't be the same - the biggest issue being the poor upload speeds affecting ratios.

Agree that blocking the site will achieve nothing other than add a few button clicks to the process

0 |

One of the private tracker sites I'm a member of recently removed the ratio features. Bit of good fortune for me as I got Sky Fibre in at the weekend. Getting my torrents at 4.4Mb/s. Don't bother with XVids now...HD all the way :-)

0 |

Which site is that?

0 |

you guys know this stuff is actually illegal. You wouldnt steal an handbag would ye!

I went mad on torrents, DLed every thing going, got about 300 - 400 GB (i know its not tht much for some) i'd say 50% remains unwatched. I thinkI love CoD too much.

0 |

Hope you mean 4.4MB/s Dee

I would steal a handbag if it matched my shoes

0 |

i wouldnt steal a car but i would love to download one

0 |

I'd download the fuck out of a new motor I I could

0 |

Are you on UPC 100Mb Matthew? I've sort of accepted the max download I'm getting is around 20Mb, I'm all disappointed now.

0 |

Torrents do me fine. Hate the idea of paying for piracy. Sure while you're at it, why not start paying for air?

Paying for piracy is like doing a runner from a restaurant but still leaving a tip with the waiter, except someone else steals it, and then buys drugs, and feeds them to a cat, that dies, and the body decomposes and attracts rats and they all get into my kicthen and eat my wheaten bread, and I cry for a week, all cus you can't afford to pay for a fucking Sex In The City box set for your fucking girlfriend who hasn't shown the slightest interest in your over-wanked cock in the last 6 months!

Wow, I got pretty carried away there. Ummm, yeah, torrents, does me, you know?

0 |

Whoa there lads, I said a handbag, there was no mention of stealing a car. You's watch too much TV

I've been using a private torrent site for ages (bitsoup.org) and i get great speeds! Don't download anything less than 720p either and can always find what i want. Fuck paying for illegal stuff!

0 |

TV shows Nigel. I don't download films at all really. Anyway, i haven't the means to conveniently play 1080p yet.

0 |

Well annoyed that VM have blocked PB. Whilst I mainly use usenet for my download fixes torrents are still usefull for stuff no longer indexed or simply not uploaded. isohunt, whilst not a patch on PB is still a strong site. There'll always be a way around "inconveniences" like this but may "encourage" a small proportion of people to pay a little more for data.

What will they disagree/censor next, porn sites, public domain sites, news sites? This is just another small step towards internet censorship.

0 |

A lot of new stuff on usenet getting pulled really quickly ffs.
