Irish festivals

Looking for an EP alternative in Ireland - considering Castleapooza, although the line-up hasn't been released yet. Any others worth checking out?

I'm thinking of hitting an Irish festival this year too, preferably camping.

Thinking EP could have the Oxegen crowd at it, doesn't seem to have much house/techno at it anymore either.

Wish i had spotted this a bit earlier:

forbiddenfruit.ie/lineu

says Dublin to. Should be avoided at all costs

0 |

Stuff Ireland.

0 |

Forbidden Fruit last year was a lot of fun, I only went to the second day. The lineups much better this year.

0 |

Irish festivals will be plagued by Irish smicks who lets face it are the worst in the whole fucking world for being cunts

0 |

There's a stupid amount of local festivals this year.

0 |

It's not though, at least there were none last year. Tonnes of hipsters mind you.

0 |

sea sessions was really good last year, and heading down to a day at forbidden fruit. Ep should improve its lineup once body & soul announce. but to be honest its not seeming worth the money atm

I cant see it appealing to many oxegen goers. other than the killers and ed sheeran,i cant see them wanting to fork out 240 euro for anyone on that lineup.

While some goto Oxegen for the music, others go for a weekend of drinking in a campsite...so it might appeal to that classy group of Oxegen plebs. EP isn't worth the money at the moment. i know its more than just a lineup but I like a handful of acts to see each day...even if I miss most of them

0 |

Do you know when the announcement is likely to be rigsy?

0 |

true, you at least want a couple, 3/4 decent acts to see each day/nite and the rest can be spent wandering.why not just spend a few quid more and head to bestival or a few smaller festival in engerland.

irish smicks are a total disaster tbf. but never ever had a problem at ep

0 |

Kinda want to stay in Ireland to keep costs down a bit, if I start flying places then I start throwing money everywhere. EP is also the best festival I've been to, its all about the wandering tbh - when the music ends there is so much on.

0 |

bodyandsoul.ie will be great too and incredibly unlikely to attract any bad characters. Lovely setting and good lineup.

0 |

Agree with Rigsy - Oxegen's seen in the south as a post-leaving cert rite of passage and with EP the first weekend of September (yeah?) and will be too late for some, maybe.

I don't think it'll be the presence of skangers that would mess with EPs vibe. It'll be an eventual over-commercialisation, the deterioration of the lineup quality and an increasing abundance of middle class students who love to get absolutely wankered and think being like this is "good craic":

0 |

EP will be sweet this year again.
You don't like the headliners, avoid them - it's easily done.
Weatherall was amazing in Little Big Tent last year.
Was hoping he would bring A Love From Outer Space over to it this year, but turns out ALFOS will be in this very city when EP is on.

0 |

The little big tent last year looked scummed out tbh. All wapped out heads but I daren't stray in to it much. Only went in for Fly Lo, everyone else had fucked off for the Chem Bros, ended up a fine choice as Fly Lo was immense.

As regards Forbidden Fruit, that looks like it's being lined upto be Primavera but in Ireland. The lineup is immense, for me the Monday of it probably has the best day lineup ive seen. I'd imagine it'll get bigger as the years go on. Pity about the locale and shit finishing time though.

0 |

Had a few sporadic visits to Little Big Tent last year and thought there was a pretty decent atmosphere for the most part.

So, the additions to the EP lineup were:

Patti Smith; Richard Hawley; Crystal Castles; SBTRKT; Grandaddy; Squarepusher; The Maccabees; Gavin Friday; Van Dyke Parks; Michael Kiwanuka; The Jezabels; Dublin Gospel Choir; Eagle And The Worm; In Tua Nua

Not enough for me.

0 |

Grandaddy = sold. Sold a million billion times.

0 |

There will be more, none of the DJs have been announced yet. More than happy with this so far.

0 |

Yeah, any reservations have been ended by Grandaddy's announcement.

0 |

Brilliant additions tbf

0 |

DJs added:

James Murphy; The Juan MacLean; Pat Mahoney; Caribou VS.Four Tet (Official) (B2B Set); Rustie; Hudson Mohawke; JuniorBoys; Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs; Bassnectar; John Talabot; catz n dogz; Amine Edge; DJ W!LD; MMoths; Le Galaxie; Not Squares; Ships; White Collar Boy; Subaltern; Orquesta

I'm liking that

0 |

...sop when are the DJs being added

0 |

Is that the lineup complete or any more dj additions, still seems a bit light

0 |

Seeing James murphy dj would be good. Then four tet obviously. If Richard Hawley wasn't playing Belfast in September i would go to ep just for that.

0 |

Still more DJs to be announced throughout August.
Sure if you get bored there's always threatening beats at Arcadia.

0 |

I meant December

0 |

it just doesnt have the same ring to it as previous years - Bestival on the other hand is nearly perfect

0 |

body n soul is over. it ruled!

0 |

bodytonic you mean

0 |

For as good as EP line up looks, i cant help but feel that 250 yoyos for a festival ticket is a complete fleece.

I got to a festival in Germany with a savage line up of rave (MELT! Festival), and my travel and ticket came to £230 quid. ticket was €105 for 4 nights and three days, with two 24hr techno stages.
At the time the euro was 1 for 1 with the pound.
The weather was glorious, and there wasnt a cultchie or knacker ballbag in sight.
Cant help but feel we get absolutely shagged for festivals in Ireland, as well as totally pissed on by the shitty weather.

0 |

no body n soul i meant.

0 |

moodselector - were you at Met! this year??

0 |

After 2010, i'll not be back at EP. Lost everything that made it great and there is not a chance that i would pay that money for it.

0 |

@BigBen,

Went in 2009 and 2010, have missed the last two due to not being able to afford it and lack of interested to venture back again from mates.
But I would definitely go again, the venue is unbelievable and the people are so friendly, there also wasnt a very large British and Irish crowd, which I liked.
Comparable to Benicassim which spanish people dont attend and its mainly 70% british and irish folk.

0 |

what did it lose Kev? i can see EP being filled to the absolute hilt this year with the best of irish scum seeing as Oxegen aint on

0 |

@moods

I was at it this year it was absolutely brilliant possibly the best festival I have ever been at. The sleepless floor nearly ended me most of it was just a blur. It rained on the fri night but the rest of the weekend was great

0 |

Sleepless floor, ahhhh what a place.
Sat with my bird and two german dudes, on the beach for 6 hours, talking pure nonsense and rolling up out of what was easily an ounce of grass, he even gave me a massive handful to take back to the tent. for nothing. dont get that out of your usual dublin knackers.

0 |

Im playing sunflower festival in few weeks and really looking forward to it.

0 |

What day muzka? Think we're gonna head down the sunday.

0 |

What time you on at Nik? We have tickets for that, though it'll be my 4th festival in the space of 5 weekends, so may be a bit run down by that stage.

0 |

Im on Friday. I think 9-10. Nez is on after. Im playing with the beatboxer who is resident with me at my blasters night in the Hudson.

0 |

Ooooohhh, possible clash with Roysta?

0 |

Is he not on Saturday ?

0 |

yep, roysta is saturday

0 |

Aaahh, completely forgot that Sunflower was a two day event. Keep getting it and Tanglewood mixed up.

0 |

Three day. On sunday also
