Id hazard a guess someone's been to the one in New York and liked the cut of its gib?

0 |

So it's a rip off??

0 |

I am hazarding a guess, I may be wrong, it has been known to happen!

The owner's da is called Hud.

0 |

afaik hudson entry was near there.

0 |

Aye www.culturenightbelfas...

0 |

oddly the hudson would have had all the pet shops round it, seen a pic of the original du-barys yesterday.

This was there until maybe '95. Part of all the old smithfield markets and shops, really interesting part of belfast.

0 |

Yep, named after Hudson's Entry/Lane which were the original street names in Smithfield.

0 |

Was there a bar in that spot or on that street about 5/6 years ago?

0 |

oh aye... my Dad was reminiscing about that pet shop when I was telling where The Hudson was.. + now that I see it, I remember it too!

Remember carousel the dodgy arcade?

0 |

longer than that matthew.

it was dubarrys, then something before that.

du-barys must have been named after this gaff @ 1m 18secs.

0 |

named after the Bruce Willis classic Hudson Hawk

0 |

It was a bar called the Factory. All the staff wore long brown working coats. Mate worked there for a while. Coke fuelled madness that venture.

0 |

There was a bar round the with these amazing elephant type statues like gargolye type things outside it near there too, that only got knocked down in the last few years.

0 |

The Factory, I remember that. Was about 6-7 years ago aye? Remember going in for a lunchtime pint when I was at Millfield.

found it!

0 |

The Factory, that's the one. Anytime I've asked that, people say Dubarry's, but I remember the long coats.

0 |

Was one of the bars there opened by someone who won the lottery or something?

And holy fuck at that Elephant off license.

0 |

it was the elephant bar before it was an offy.

0 |

I did not know that.

0 |

Yep, Peter won the lottery years ago and bought the building. He's still involved with The Hudson. Top lad.

0 |

Cheers for clearing that up. I was sure I hadn't made it up.

0 |

Did yer man not start up the Belfast bus tours thing as well?

0 |

I wrote a blog about built heritage/social history in belfast for a bit

I'd fucking love to do a social history pamphlet on the Smithfield area say from 1800's to present.

Quite a lot of the same families still seem to be about, hugely interesting bit of Belfast.

0 |

Aye, he's got loadsa stuff going on.

0 |

Secure that shit Hudson!

0 |

an associate owned it when it was the factory.

0 |

I still have the piece of paper I scribbled the name down on. I only had two days to choose before we had to register our trading name, or one of the other partners was getting his inspired choice of Smiths@Smithfield or some other dung name.

0 |

I wasn't sold on The Hudson at the start tbh, can't imagine it called anything else now.

0 |

The LOL Tent?

0 |

I remember cecils when they had 5 puppies jammed into each cage

0 |

Smithfield is a top area like. Work round there and it's a nice wee community too. Joe who owns Premier Records always invites ya in for a wee beer at Christmas time on lunch.

0 |

who owns the place? is it you mmurray? I have a vague recollection of meeting a boarder in teh hudson with ski before xmas.

0 |

Neh, I don't own it. Dirty Sanchez and three other guys own it. I'll own the next one.

0 |

Hudson II?

Hudson part Deux?

0 |

Dirty sanchez and the three amigos. I understand.

0 |

Murray and I will have the next venture. I'll be the operator, he'll be the brains and the tweed.

0 |

God knows you need tweed to make a bar work.

Is there anywhere to read the blog still?

cracking wee spot, love it. nice things on tap too. i instagram'd a photo i took of the wall that says "i love you but ive chosen disco" and got a load of views for it. where did that come from or who did it?

0 |

It was an image that did the rounds online a few years back, I got the fella from the skate shop down the road to spray it on the wall in the hopes people would do exactly what you did. Cheers for that, I feel vindicated.

0 |

whats joseph goebbels got to do with it? or did you miss spell god bless haha

0 |

mmurray is a MASSIVE Nazi.

0 |

Was it the Hudson where that shooting took place in the 70s? My Da said there was a bar on Gresham street were there were a number of people killed. One of the Shankill butchers involved.
